His books include Patrick White: A Life, The High Price of Heaven, Dark Victory (with Marian Wilkinson) and five Quarterly Essays: 'His Master's Voice', 'Power Trip', 'Political Animal', 'The Prince' and 'Faction Man'.

Marr deftly weaves together the many threads of contemporary Australian racism and its politics. The way he carefully traces Howard's development of racist dog-whistle politics and the effect of Hanson on his politics was illuminating.
