Publisher's Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • For the infamous, power-hungry Sith, beholden to the dark side, the time has come to rise again.
“Full of lightsaber battles, the Jedi philosophy, and lots of new life-forms.”—Chicago Sun-Times
After years of waiting in the shadows, Darth Sidious is taking the first step in his master plan to bring the Republic to its knees. Key to his scheme are the Neimoidians of the Trade Federation. Then one of his Neimoidian contacts disappears, and Sidious does not need his Force-honed instincts to suspect betrayal. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt the traitor down.
But he is too late. The secret has already passed into the hands of information broker Lorn Pavan, which places him right at the top of Darth Maul’s hit list. Then, in the labyrinthine alleyways and sewers of Coruscant, capital city of the Republic, Lorn crosses paths with Darsha Assant, a Jedi Padawan on a mission to earn her Knighthood.
Now the future of the Republic depends on Darsha and Lorn. But how can an untried Jedi and an ordinary man, stranger to the powerful ways of the Force, hope to triumph over one of the deadliest killers in the galaxy?
Critic Reviews
“Reaves writes with a creative flair, allowing readers to experience an almost cinematic sensation as they move through the story. The language is colorful, the action scenes are dynamic, and the dialogue is realistic.... Shadow Hunter is a very good Star Wars novel that reads as easily as a comic book.... Reaves does an excellent job.”—Winston-Salem Journal

More Legends recordings, please.
This is Star Wars in audio form the way it was meant to be. Sam Witwer, known for voicing Darth Maul in Star Wars The Clone Wars, among other roles, was an excellent choice as narrator. I hope more of the Legends EU is released in this audio form as soon as possible.

Shadow Hunter
Brought to life by the one and only Sam Witwer this is simply superb. Pick it up.
Thank you again, Disney for continuing Legends. Vector Prime, Outbound Flight, and Survivor’s Quest would be awesome.

Absolute Delight
How could you not enjoy a book of Maul narrated by the voice actor of Maul (from clone wars) himself??? An escape into the starwars universe, I was enthralled from beginning to end!

WOW!
The abridged recording of this book and its previous narrator was already good, but this new unabridged recording with Sam is next level outstanding!!

Horrible narration!!!!!
Unfortunately, I could only listen to an hour or two of this book. The voice actor, though great with character voices decided to narrate in a number of voices. He makes sounds, scoffs, laughs exaggerates words that need no exaggeration. He changes the tone and pitch of his voice constantly. He narrates as if it is one of the characters narrating and not, like most books, the narrator. I literally find myself paying more attention to how bad the narration piece is that can not follow what is going on in the story. I can not comment enough on how poorly he handles the narration aspect. This is upsetting as he is actually great with character voices. I pre-ordered this book and was very excited as Maul is my favorite and now I am disappointed. You do not need to narrate in a voice, just read the book! I can’t accurately rate the book itself but the narration brings it down quite a bit.

Love the narrator! You can tell he does voice acting for a living
I recommend anyone who loves Star Wars to at least get this one, if not to enjoy Sam Witwer’s voice acting skills as he voices more than just Darth Maul.

Sam Witwer
Having Sam Witwer narrate a Darth Maul novel was brilliant. The immersion that he creates in bringing to life the pages is incredible. I wasn’t sure how he would do with all of the other characters since I hear his voice and instantly think Maul but he is a professional voice actor and made that obvious in his performance. Getting onto the actual content, I thought the book was an awesome opportunity to get a deeper look into the mind of Darth Maul right before you see him for the first time in Phantom Menace and I also really enjoyed the other characters introduced in the story. I read this immediately following Darth Plagueis and definitely recommend reading both books in order to supplement each other as well as the prequels.

Amazing Narration
The obvious highlight is Sam Witwer's (return) performance as Darth Maul is worth the purchase alone. It is a great story, just wish there was more.

Scintillating
Beloved Star Wars fan and talented voice actor Sam Witwer gave a performance worthy of the story that surpassed expectations, navigating skilfully and satisfyingly beyond the threat of poor retcon

Frustrating - in a good way
It feels like the narrator was born for thus moment. He chewed his way through the scenery with relish. It was such a delight to listen to. I enjoyed the story much more than the dreary Cloak of Deception or Plagueis.
But, this reminds me of the original Night of the Living Dead. Frustrating in all the right ways, given how much we've come to care for all the characters.

Sluggish and doesn't do Maul any justice
I struggled to finish this one. Darth Maul is my personal favourite Sith and overall character in Star Wars cannon and legends, but this book didn't do the character any justice. I found the focus on the scoundrel and the droid, really took away from the flow of the book and also made for an uninteresting ending. We didn't even get to see the reaction of palaptine at the end.

Not my Maul, not my narrator!
The narrator was very energetic and theatrical, a bit too much for my taste. He tried so hard to do dark and sinister sith voices it came off as parody. might work well for others, especially children but I was thrown off. the voices were a bit inconsistent across characters and time.
the book's Maul was not particularly interesting unfortunately. the movie version has a meditative, calm voice that suggests high intelligence. the darth plageius book's version of maul also suggests this by considering maul's thoughts about veing sent to a lobely planet for yet more covert training ehen he want to show off his skills and make changes. but here, he is not more than an raging dog.
i thought lorn pavaan resembled Han Solo too much and darsha was a bit too thin.
Great third act though, some nice plot elements. obi wan trying to figure things was good and could have been expanded.

Stunning narration but poor story.
Well performed, the narrator really got into it, but the story sucked, no substance at all. Struggled to complete.

The best narrator I’ve ever heard
The book was fantastic but what really made it for me was the narrator he absolutely nailed the different voices and sets the seen of how the feel eg. Out of breath, enraged, filled with joy ect.
Couldn’t speak higher of him and the book itself

10/10, best narration yet.
A Darth Maul story narrated by the voice of Maul, absolutely awsome, Witwer does a great job, wish he did more SW stories now. I Forgot I had read the book already but his storytelling made it better, does the crazy, angry Maul so well just like in TCW series. 10 out of 10 for me.

Shadow Hunter
An awesome insight to a criminally underused Sith. And Sam Witwer's narration was utterly captivating the whole way through :D

Just wow
If you have 10 1/2 hours and want to listen to an incredible performance then I highly recommend this story with some old and new characters but most definitely you can visualise the the scene and with Sam’s passionate performance, you get a truly unique Star Wars experience. 10/10 loved it

Quite possibly the best narration ever
Sam Witer’s clear and obvious passion for what he is narrating is simply awe inspiring. Ever since listening to this book I have found all other narration to be dull and dry, It’s truly like listening to a movie!! And I truly hope he gets to do more, I can’t recommend this enough.

Absolutely Epic!
First off, the story. This novel acts as a bit of a prequel to Episode 1, but it also launches one of my absolute Star Wars arcs. The characters are interesting and I actually felt something for them at the end. The setting of Coruscant's underbelly was also really to see.
The real highlight of this audiobook though was Sam Witwer's performance. Obviously he is the voice of Darth Maul in The Clone Wars and Rebels show, as well as Palpatine, and his performances of them in this audiobook are worth the credit or price alone. His other voices in this are great too, including Qui Gon Jin.
The Lorn Pavan/I5/Jax Pavan arc is my favourite of all the Start Wars EU novels. Hi highly recommend this one.

Not really a Darth Maul story
well narrated but for a book about darth maul he seemed to be more of a side character. would recomend star wars: Maul for a good darth maul story.
