I finally made it back

I started my first reading of this series many years ago. I made it all the way to siege of darkness, but for my life got too busy to complete the series. now that I've have audible I've been going back through the series and I just finished these of darkness and I can't wait to start on Passage to Dawn.

Perfect stories, but needs a new narrator!

Salvatore's Drizzt stories are fantastic, standard-setting high fantasy. However, listening to Victor Bevine read the books is painful. He whispers most of the time, then nearly yells when a battle begins. I had to adjust the audio dozens of times because of this. The every day conversational tone of talking characters (meaning Bevine whispers) is just out of place. I love these stories, but they're ruined with this narrator. I'm hoping that whoever hold the rights to have these books re-read by someone else, please do so! If they aren't re-done, I'll probably stick with reading them the old fashioned way via paperback or hardcover.

Not perfect, but worth it!

I was annoyed by Bevine’s volume and how his volume would rise and fall randomly. It makes sense why, but it is still jarring. And he does pronounce some words differently than I am used to, but that is just how he talks, so I can’t blame him for that.

The story is great, though it was indeed very long. There was much strategy and intrigue but not much character development. But some important plot points did actually take place, so I don’t advise skipping over this book.

I genuinely enjoyed the book, but most of the other complaints were legit. Long, tedious, and the speaker has his own unique style. BUT DON’T SKIP THIS STORY!!! It does add value to Mithril Hall and the character’s dependence of each other.

The best Drizzt book in the series

The culmination of the Dark Elf Trilogy and Icewind Dale Trilogy come together in a War for the Hall itself. There is one more book in Salvatore's first arc but to me this was the end of the arc and my favorite book in the series.

If you enjoy Drizzt books, the first 9 are a complete tale. I am rereading it all to catch up to the last 10 or so published and I hope there are some books as good as this.

Good but drags a little towards the end

This particular installation of the series focuses a lot on battles, which if you're into you will love. It reminded me more of a Warhammer 40k book, but still a worthy instalment in the series.

Great culmination to the menzobaranzon story arc

Great book and story, beautifully narrated as has come to be expected. Little disappointed because the end felt a bit rushed. Kind of “blink and you miss it”
