Publisher's Summary

Join Greg Laurie as he takes a cross-country drive in his 1968 Highland Green Ford Mustang 390 GT through the canyons of Malibu, the alleys of Hollywood, the wide and open roads of the Midwest, the streets of New York, as he traces the wooly geography of actor Steve McQueen's life, relationships, career, and spiritual journey. This iconic muscle car was the vehicle McQueen drove in his most raucous and enduring film, Bullitt. In the 1960s, McQueen was, according to box office receipts, the biggest movie star of his generation and one of the coolest men to ever walk the planet. Greg Laurie was a teen at the time and an ardent fan of ''The King of Cool", first mesmerized by McQueen in 1963's The Great Escape. Like millions of cinema fans, Greg developed a lifelong fascination with the actor. Now he has a chance to tell McQueen's story.

McQueen was a complex, contradictory man who lived the same way he drove his motorcycles and cars: fearlessly, ruthlessly, and at top speed. After a lifetime of fast cars, women, and drugs, McQueen took a surprising detour. In this book, Laurie thoughtfully interviews members of Steve McQueen's family, friends, co-stars, associates, widow, and pastor to tell of the dramatic life-change for the actor in the spring of 1979 - six months before McQueen was diagnosed with terminal cancer. What were the critical steps that led McQueen to make such a life-altering decision? Perhaps more importantly, why is that part of his story so rarely told? This book answers these questions.

Greg Laurie will follow the seeds of Christianity that were sown throughout McQueen's improbable life where a Light finally shone into the darkness of his troubled life. These seeds miraculously germinated, allowing McQueen to see that redemption through Jesus Christ is a lasting truth more glittering and real than any magic of the entertainment industry.

Fascinating

Listened to the book, which was wonderful; and also went to see the author's movie. Great experience. What was so particularly fascinating was that they brought out scenes that showed how McQueen's skill in using the camera to his advantage with his three best movies. So, I just bought those 3 movies to watch them again with a new perspective and appreciation.

Intresting bio of Steve McQueen

Interesting story that was intertwined the author's life with Steve McQueen's that l hadn't expected. The way the author conducted the research that was done relating the process of Steve's conversion grabbed my attention. Other than McQueen's acting on Wanted Dead or Alive, l only saw a couple of movies that he starred in so l can't say l was a fan of his, but l did find his story interesting and "read" this book in just 2 sittings.

See you in heaven Steve!

Amazing story. I have been a Steve McQueen fan for many years. I knew of his faith in Jesus but I had no idea the level of change that took place in his life in such a short amount of time. What a transformation! This was a good listen. I will recommend this to some of my fellow Magnificent Seven fans.

The end/beginning of the story

Great book! I’d always heard Steve McQueen confessed Christ before he died but this book fills in so much detail. Greg Laurie did an excellent job.

Really Great Story

I did not expect the story to have the depth of character in Steve McQueen. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the message.

So much more than an actor

What a fantastic story of the life and times of Steve McQueen. The author did a fantastic job digging into the history of McQueen and humanizing him.

Need an abridged version

I like Greg Laurie and I like Steve McQueen, but I think this could have been more concise. There are too many details that just aren't that important or interesting. For example, he talks a lot about his ancestors and McQueens ancestors.

Enjoyable listen but....!

I've listened and read a number of McQueen bios and although I enjoyed the concept of the book ie car journey, interview s and recollection s, I ended up a little frustrated with how much religion and personal anecdotes of the author were included but admittedly this was the basis behind the book, so I guess this was to be expected.

Self indulgent- not about Steve but Christianity

Complete waste of time and money. This audiobook is a complete self indulgence of the author into his fanboy life, using Steve McQueen as a tool to push his views on religion. Can’t be summed-up better than the author explaining how Christianity comes to SM when he’s desperate and dying of cancer - it doesn’t save him of course but it makes him able to confront it.... Please. Stay clear of this and all their books - they use the lives of others to push their agenda.
