A great guide to getting you on a path to your top career aspirations.
For many of us, taking responsibility and working hard is expected; but success doesn’t come just from working hard, accepting responsibility and worrying about everything around you. In Success Under Stress, Ms. Melnick provides simple yet effective tools for dealing with stress in seemingly unwindable situations at work and in your personal life.
Evidence-based techniques from Ms. Melnick’s years of research at Harvard medical school, coupled with alternative medicine and quick meditation rituals, gave me a holistic view on how to deal with a variety of challenges in my life with a very prescriptive and individualized advice.
I’ve read a variety of development books on leadership and success. The most useful ones, for me, are those books you read, taking notes and writing down the source names to learn more on the subject. Success Under Stress had me notating every chapter. And now that I finished this audio book, I am compelled to buy a print version as well.
Throughout the book I made bookmarks and wrote down key advice from Ms Melnick (Audible makes it easy to bookmark and go back on a variety of topics + write notes on specific audio segments). From acupressure triggers to defuse your anxiety; to a table that helps you drill down to why certain people do things and how to react to their actions with empathy and better understanding of other motivations and concerns.
I finish this review by paraphrasing, what I found to be at the heart of Ms. Melnick’s message. Be impeccable for the things you can control, “your 50%”. Understand that motivating others isn’t a one-size-fits-all proposition and requires patience and empathy. Dealing with impossibly difficult boss, who screams at you on regular basis, can teach you more about yourself and how to better adopt to this difficult relationship. Finally, not all fights are worth fighting. Walking away when you know you did what you could, impeccably, gives you no regrets to pursue change and positive vibes for your future.
Happy listening! Find out how you want to be recognized and work on focusing and prioritizing tasks that will help you reach your goals.
