Publisher's Summary

An instant New York Times best seller!

The new uplifting book from Matt Haig, the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Midnight Library, for anyone in search of hope, looking for a path to a more meaningful life, or in need of a little encouragement.

Named by The Washington Post as one of the best feel-good books of 2021.

“It is a strange paradox, that many of the clearest, most comforting life lessons are learnt while we are at our lowest. But then we never think about food more than when we are hungry and we never think about life rafts more than when we are thrown overboard.”

The Comfort Book is Haig’s life raft: It’s a collection of notes, lists, and stories written over a span of several years that originally served as gentle reminders to Haig’s future self that things are not always as dark as they may seem. Incorporating a diverse array of sources from across the world, history, science, and his own experiences, Haig offers warmth and reassurance, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty and unpredictability of existence.

Critic Reviews

“My two essential books, at the moment. One is Matt Haig's The Comfort Book. This book is like a Bible of really lovely little titbits to help you through what could be a stressful time….Very helpful. This is something that offers a very lovely amount of relief and it's like a cuddle.”- Jonathan Bailey (Ten Things He Can't Live Without, GQ)

"...a collection of empowering, beautiful concepts that’ll help anyone get through tough times. I read and reread sections of The Comfort Book..." -- Zibby Owens, Katie Couric Media

"The Comfort Book, a collection of aphorisms and inspirational stories of survival against the odds, is a guide to living and finding hope in these disjointed times" --Guardian

Musings at best

Why? This is just a incomplete journal entry…one sentence chapters of phycobabble! I can’t believe it would be helpful for someone in the throes of depression either…I loved The Midnight Library but this is embarrassing!

Best book ever!

Anyone who has ever felt despair, anxiety, stress, suicidal thoughts, or if you are simply looking for a new book to read, this is a must! Matt Haig has incredible empathy and it feels like a friend talking to you throughout the whole book. None of his chapters flow together, but more of random thoughts thrown together. It’s great though.

This book helps me

especially when I’m going through a depression
episode. It has become very dear to me. His words
are all the more powerful because of what he has gone through. His words are intelligent , well researched, kind, & caring. He references thoughts from human beings throughout history like Julius Caesar and Maya Angelou. The WAY he speaks is also very meaningful- you can feel his heart. Anyone who suffers from mental illness like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc. will find this book serves them well. It certainly does for me.

ALL the comfort! 💖💖💖

My deep gratitude to Matt for this incredible piece of art. This will be a resource I come back to over and over. From the format to the content, the breath of humanity, authenticity, understanding, and compassion, and the humor! This is an absolute gem of a book that came at a time it was much needed. Such a unique piece. I was inspired shortly after starting this to make sure to check out The Midnight Library, which I equally loved and blew through! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Matt!

A Must Read!!!

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this book. It made me feel like I wasn’t the only one who felt as I do, or how my brain works. I will say for those who are very linear thinkers, read or listen carefully and possibly in parts. He talks and reads like a normal conversation, but it felt very circular and familiar to me. Not at all like other books, which I loved. Matt helped me to feel hope again, and possibly see a light at the end of my very long tunnel.
Thank you Matt!!!! I will be listening again and again.

Some people might enjoy Mambo Mambo of. Depressive slight encouraging self help.
Not my cup of tea. Though will be different.
The pitch of the author was tired
