About this listen

Contemporary culture tells us the twentysomething years don't matter. Clinical psychologist Dr Meg Jay argues that this could not be further from the truth. In fact, your 20s are the most defining decade of adulthood.

The Defining Decade weaves the latest science of the twentysomething years with real-life stories to show us how work, relationships, personality, social networks, identity and even the brain can change more during this decade than at any other time in adulthood.

Smart, compassionate and constructive, The Defining Decade is a practical guide to making the most of the years we cannot afford to miss.

The book is conversational between the author and her twentysomethings clients during her clinical studies. I found myself indentifying with different people and the book compelled me to break and reconsider some of my strongest narratives and barriers I built for myself. I would recommend everyone in their twenties to give this book a try.

The most relevant book I could have picked

This book was an eye-opener for life in your 20s. I thoroughly enjoyed Meg's examples.

A must listen for any 20-something!

I wasn't sure what I believe when I began reading it. I had only heard that the book is good but it gives you the feeling like it's the 20s or nothing. But when I heard it I loved how the author shares such valid points and experiences to support the idea that 20s are important. It's not impossible to do things after 20s but if you have other goals too in your life, especially the time sensitive ones, then it just gets harder. You have to have the willpower & strength to push harder than you ever did before.

That being said, yes it's likely that you will feel it's the 20s or nothing after finishing the book but we all know that's not true.
People at any age can achieve things in their physical and intellectual capacity if they put in the work.

••• But those dealing with issues beyond their control- Physical, mental health issues, trauma, financial or family issues, etc. can't just take control immediately. I'm 25- I've struggled the first 4 years of my 20s & I'm still recovering. It is what it is. We pick up where we can. •••

DO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS BOOK IS PRIMARILY FOR THOSE IN THEIR 20s & LATE TEENS MAYBE, WHO HAVE THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL CAPACITY/STRENGTH TO TAKE CONTROL & CHANGE THINGS.

So if you're someone who just needs the motivation and facts to take your 20s seriously then go ahead- this book is for you to start strong and build life when there are relatively fewer responsibilities. It's kind of like a wake up call to make mindful choices, live in the present and not beyond time.

Must read even if you believe in the title or not.
