A business parable about how to create a start-up that won't trap you when you want to sell it. According to John Warrillow, the number one mistake entrepreneurs make is to build a business that relies too heavily on them. Thus, when the time comes to sell, buyers aren't confident that the company-even if it's profitable-can stand on its own. To illustrate this, Warrillow introduces us to a fictional small business owner named Alex who is struggling to sell his advertising agency.

A must have business book.
I was going into this book with apprehension, a fear that this was yet another "I'll show you how it is done and you will live a great life forever". But I decided to buck the critic on audible who said it was awful and got it. Well I was surprised. It gives you the basics on running a business, a department, or anything...really. It shows you some of the obvious things that you never think about and then allows you to expand on them for yourself. It's a book that I have read a number of times...well listened to, but the first that I took notes on. E-Myth Mastery is next.

Excellent read and recommend listening to it once a year. Challenges small business owners to work yourself out of your job and to delegate. In order to build a self sufficient company with total freedom, one must develop systems that the "least" qualified employee in your organization can follow. Life Changing, I Gotta Say
I had heard about this book for years, but Gerber's writing style, with its endless dependent clauses, bothered me. However, when I got the audio book, and heard him reading it, and got the way it was meant to be taken in, I got it.
This book has radically helped me in the past month and a half since I read it, and dramatically changed how I look at my (*CURRENTLY*) one-person business. I cannot recommend this book enough to those of you who started a small business without any entrepreneurial training or experience.

Hard to follow
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Its not clear what his goal is and hard to follow. It feels like it was written in the 90's and hasn't changed. I honestly don't know why so many people liked this book or recommend it. Seemed to go in circles and lost focus plenty of times.
What was most disappointing about Michael E. Gerber’s story?
Talked about a lot of the same things and hard to follow. Seem to not have a main point.
Any additional comments?
I would not recommend this book. Period.

Must listen for would be entrepreneurs
The audiobook is a bit too long. The stories about Sara's problems are a bit too long and too emotional at the first sight. However, when you look closer, you realize the story is about someone like you. If you try to think like Sara, the main character, it is about life and meaning of life. Then, you understand the real substance of what the author is transmiting using an emotional story. There is knowledge inside: how to start a business; how to not be consumed by your business; how to balance business with life; how to grow; how to be successful etc.
It is the true substance of the book that made me to upgrade from 3 to 4 stars.

Wow! Does this guy know me?
I couldn't believe this book. It seemed like the author had a hidden camera into my life and my business. He knew everything about me! As he went through the stages of a new business, it was like as if he were telling my life story. His suggestions were timely and relevant. His methods were clear and easy to follow. I found this book to be particularly exciting and motivational. He reawakened the vitality in me that I had when I initially started my business. And most importantly, this book made me realize that my business ups and downs were not unique, and gave me hope that there was a way out. This is a perfect read for someone in the small, then big, then small again place in their business. However, I imagine it is relevant at any point in the growth of a small business. Hopefully you will read this book early so you can avoid some of the pitfalls he describes and I have already experienced. This is a MUST READ for any small business owner.

Small business owners - you must listen to this!
Where does The E-Myth Revisited rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
We all get bogged down in the doing. This book explains why and what to do about it.
What did you like best about this story?
Practical application.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, because you need to ponder the ideas being suggested. It's better to listen to a chapter, think and then move on. But you also want to go back and listen to it again.

Every small business owner should listen
This is a great book for small business owners. I run a number of businesses and advise many others (not as part of Emyth Worldwide, I should add!) and the themes covered in this book, the systems and processes it introduces are excellent. The only reason it isn't 5* is because the story is a little too sickly at times and the narration is too slow (like so many narrators). I listened on 1.25x to make it sound normal!

Fluff and repetition
This book could be a quarter of the size if the overly emotional narratives and alliteration were removed. There are a few bits of helpful wisdom in there but one needs to wade deep through some heavy drivel.

Hard to keep listening to
It's really quite tedious, very repetitive and spends too much time on fluff style narrative talking about his own life experiences, but experiences that add very little value to the actual points he's making (if you can find the points!). The few points he does make could be knocked over in a much shorter time frame, if he got rid of all the fluff and nonsense. He's incredibly boring as a narrator and should have got a professional to do it. It's ridiculously long for no good reason.

Tedious. Hard to find the grain amongst the chaff.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No. It is padded with multiple repetitions, multiple repetitive adjectives, and multiple repetitive examples.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes. Equally slow.
Could you see The E-Myth Revisited being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
No.
Any additional comments?
There are some good ideas. For which I happily pay double for the non-bloated version.

A must read for ANY business.
Being a marketing coach, I was unsure on how many systems in this book would apply to my business, ignorantly assuming that this was more for bricks and mortar business. I was wrong, the systems in this books apply to ALL businesses and was a great kick up the a** for me! ;)

Thanks for firing the rocket I needed up my behind!!!
What a great book to listen to when I was feeling how I was feeling, which was totally disenchanted about my career and unmotivated to do anything about it. This book gave me the kick up the butt that I needed to change my life. It has lifted the haze and made me realise how different things can be. I want to press play and listen to it all over again but I can't, I have a business to build!!!

Motivational with clear action steps
5*
This is one of the best audio books I have listened to and I would strongly recommend to anyone who runs a small business or who is thinking of starting one...I'm actually quite envious of you if you are able to absorb and action this information whilst you commence operations.
Great vocal performance.

This book changed my life
Being in my own small building business for 30 years and basically being self employed my whole life I was inadvertently doing bits and pieces in terms of having my business set up as a franchise with systems and procedures. However I was only just touching on these and did not have the knowledge to go further. This book has solved that problem. I’ve read it 3 times and no doubt a few more. I am so looking forward to my future small business life now and the massive changes that will make in my personal life.

An absolute small business classic and must read!
Great read and listen. Definitely a classic. I really enjoyed the audiobook version as Michael Gerber’s passion for building small businesses and empowering entrepreneurs comes across. I highly recommend supplementing this read/listen with his keynote from 2016 at the “Marketing Summit”. Easily found on YouTube. I will keep coming back to this as I have seen the issues with building small businesses growing up and I am aiming to design this out of mine! Thank you, Michael Gerber and the E-Myth team.

Great but I feel it’s a bit dated
Great but I feel it’s a bit dated. You’ll need to adapt it. Interesting and worth it
