Deconstructs the desire for booze.

I've drunk to the detriment of my life for the last 20 years. I've often wanted to cut down and didn't understand how stopping altogether could be possible.

I read this book with an open mind. Now I don't want to drink at all, and can see myself lasting until I die without wanting another drink. This book de-brain-washes you. It removes the monkey from your back and gives you freedom.

I'm currently in the process re-planning my life activities, because now my life revolves around events I want to be involved in for their own sake, rather than for the booze I plan to drink. I am present in myself now. And literally, within a week, my beaten down self-esteem has bounced back (finally!) and I feel confident I have the ability to now shape the life I want.

The future is now exciting to me. Not frightening.

If you think you might have a problem, which you clearly do if you're reading this review, then listen to this book! It seemed impossible to me to, but you will see what I mean.

All the best!

Saved my life

This book literally saved my life. I had lost all hope but after quitting smoking with the help of Allen Carr I figured I might as well give this a try and to my amazement it worked. It didn’t work right away however. I took long drives listening, long walks and so on. Listened to it many times, while going to work, while walking around, I just surrounded myself with this information all the time and it eventually clicked. I haven’t had one sip of alcohol in 3 years now and I don’t miss it at all. On the contrary, I find the thought of drinking horrendous. So have a very open mind, let the information sink in, it won’t happen right away but when it does it will be absolutely amazing.

That Was Easy

Any additional comments?

Why I started this book.
In the comments I read, I was encouraged by the heavy drinkers to pick up this book, because I didn't believe it could work. I had been to AA meetings and being an atheist, I immediately locked up. I would have gone to listen to the stories (like the narrator character in Fight Club), but not to experience change. I'm a sailor, and I developed a very heavy drinking habit, and was able to maintain it without many repercussions at work, because a lot of my bosses have heavy drinking problems. My wife said I needed to do something--and after countless times of shooting back a, "yeah, sure, I'll get on that." I finally realized that I might lose her if I didn't.

My drinking.
I would drink a six pack a night, about once or twice every month (this was meant for nights when I was exercising "control" because there was something important happening the next day): every other day of that month, I drank at least ten beers plus shots of whatever I had in the freezer. I'd finish off a 30 pack on Saturday and Sunday as long as I woke up in time to drink through the morning. I only breaks I took from drinking for the past 10 years where when I had to deploy or when I was too sick for the hair of the dog. I never drank to enjoy a beverage to complement a meal or any hoity toity nonsense like that: I drank to get drunk. And if I ever started drinking and couldn't reach that goal for some reason, I was mad.

What the transition was like.
I listened to the book in the car, washing dishes, etc. I didn't quit drinking when I started it, but I followed the instructions and I never listened while I was drinking. I had a lot of fear at first, but I decided to go to the bar with my wife and I knew my friends were going to have some questions about this, because I quit. Nowadays, I go to the bar to play golden tee golf, and darts, but I haven't had a drink in about three months, and I don't see any reason I'd ever drink again. I have to admit I was nervous to go to a bar and try to avoid drinking, but it's really easy.

Bonus.
I ended up reaping some great unexpected benefits, too. Sure, I feel better and I wake up more excited, but my mood has balanced out a lot. And I have always been someone who has a very uneven mood. I has allowed me to remove delusional beliefs in other areas of my life as well. You don't recognize how brainwashed you are until you start going through it one by one. My recommendation is to keep this self improvement going with a book like miracle morning or practicing mindfulness.

Best wishes.

Transforming

This book is transforming my life. I've listened three times. You'll see why when you read it. I've never been so changed by a book in my lifetime, next to the Bible. If you feel like alcohol may have hold of you, and you can't really control your consumption, or can't picture life without it, but wish you didn't need it... This book is for you!

Subliminal Messaging? Whatever Works!

What did you learn from The Easy Way to Control Alcohol that you would use in your daily life?

The content itself seems unbelievably simple but after listening to it, I have no desire to drink. Was it hypnotism? Subliminal suggestion? It doesn't really matter to me, I am 2 weeks sober without struggle! 21 days in rehab were not as effective as these 8 hours.

Any additional comments?

Don't judge it until you give it a good try. I felt no desire to drink after listening to the first half, but completed the whole thing. Some of his ideas seem dated or regionally specific, but it still worked for me.

A Phenomenal Read for All Walks of Life

Great book, seriously, everyone should read, EVERYONE. I liked the comparison of the voice of desires inside ones head vs the voice of reason and how that comparison reflects on schizophrenia. The author could have skipped the stuff about holes in the ozone and homo sapiens killing animals because that deflected the impact of the great meaning and message that this book contains.

20 days Alcohol Free!

I drive around or go for a walk for hours near the water to listen to this book. Quitting alcohol doesn't have to be this dreaded daily struggle many of us think. Truly just dont want it anymore. Sometimes I think I must have been subconsciously hypnotized, in a good way, because I felt free almost immediately. That's saying a lot. I used to look forward to binge nights 2-3 nights a week. The hangovers and embarrassing stories were getting worse, so bad. I attribute at least 90% of my sobriety to this book. I had the will and the desire but willpower is faulty and never 100% especially on a bad day. This book really opened my eyes. I recommend it in my sober fb group frequently and keep it handy for those now rare times I might feel worried, but honestly it's more like a worry about a worry I dont really have anymore! #1 tool in my sober toolkit!

A relentless ad for nothing

He promises an easy out. It turns out to be the realization that alcohol is of no value. That's fine, but the way he goes about saying so is exhausting. By the end, it's impossible not to feel like you've just sat through a time share presentation or a pitch to be part of a pyramid scheme. Shut. Up.

Very effective, although could do with some modernisation re comparisons

I never would have believed how effective this book could be.

You need to stay open minded and bits are a little out of date, but I am completely in control of my drinking now. In fact, I haven't had a drink for over a month (I was a daily drinker) and not had one craving or withdrawal, despite continuing a full social life.

Good luck to the next reader, I hope Mr C works as well for you x

I've read Craig Becks " Fastest way to Quit drinking...guaranteed.
It's to me, an attempt to take some, not all, of the good parts of this genius book. This is the real deal in my opinion. Get this if your serious you want to be free. Get it.

It worked!

What did you like most about The Easy Way to Control Alcohol?

I was a bit cynical but wanted to quit and I thought I would give this a go. I have been drinking heavily now for 15 years (7-8pints a day easily) and after listening to this audio book I have completely stopped now for 2 weeks.

What about Richard Mitchley’s performance did you like?

He understands the issues and unravels them with emotional intelligence and IQ

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This guys talent was to clearly understand and articulate a map through what I did not think was possible and take me out of the maze I was trapped in. Easily the audiobook that will have the biggest impact on my life.

Any additional comments?

Thank you Allen only wish I could thank you in person

Very interesting

I can see how alcoholics stopped drinking after reading this book. People who don't quit haven't really understood the book , understanding the book and its message is something you've never heard before about drinking , be prepared to be shocked as the story twists. I myself have told all my friends I have stopped drinking after reading this , will it last? Only Time will tell .. I believe it will. I'm free. Come into this book as skeptical as you want.

Life Changer

What did you like most about The Easy Way to Control Alcohol?

To put it simply I'm free and I have a life that I did not know existed. Because I started drinking in my mid teens I never knew what adult life really was. I feel like I am on a high every day. This method is simple and makes sense.
If I had a good day - I needed a drink, if I had a bad day - I needed a drink. Now I can see very clearly that I did not and any time I think like that now the feeling is quickly dispelled. Freedom.

Personally this was a game changer.

I listened to this book after a friend recommended it exactly a year ago. I was fed up of being in the habit of moderate drinking for too long but seemed unable to break out of it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't feel drink was a problem or ruining my life, it just had started to annoy me. So I stated the listen with no real intention or desire to quit.. however when the reasons why so many of us drink were laid out one by one, it eventually becomes a game changer.
I now have well and truly broken out the habit, instantly, easily and painlessly. I'm not barred from alcohol, it feels more like I've barred alcohol from me. It's like my brain has been rewired for the better.
I just wish I'd read this book 20 years ago.
I can't say it will work for you, but listen with an open mind, take some bits with a pinch of salt, (and don't expect to agree with every word) and you never know, it may change your life for the better for ever too.

I didn’t believe it would work for me.

But it actually did!
I didn’t drink socially or to excess. I drank two glasses of wine every night when cooking dinner because I was exhausted and lonely. Coming home after work and having to reluctantly cook dinner alone for tired children is sooo depressing! Wine was my friend. I eased into this window of the day better. I yelled at the kids less. I got dinner made, done and survived until the kids got to bed. That doesn’t sound too bad does it?!
My problem was that when I wanted to lose weight and look at my overall health I COULDN’T give up those two glasses. I tried with will power but I was miserable and felt deprived. I became angry that ‘my little helper’ was gone. Life just didn’t seem worth it.
So because I wasn’t a raging alcoholic. Because I didn’t drink whole bottle in a night. Because I didn’t drink to excess at parties. Because I was emotionally attached I didn’t think it would work for me.
Well it did.
The ‘magic’ of this book made the craving go away and 8weeks later I still don’t have it. And would you believe that making dinner and dealing with the kids has gotten EASIER without alcohol!!
This book broke the alcohol spell. I was then able to make clear choices about what I really wanted for me life. Yes there’s been some tough times when I’ve gone into the old thought pattern- ‘ah I really need a drink’. But because I’m no longer physically and emotionally addicted I can make the rational decision ‘alcohol won’t serve me at this time’.
If you are undecided about this book just do it. For the cost of a bottle wine I’ve been able to completely change how I see my life and feel amazing about being at the steering wheel.
Please do this for yourself as well. X

Reformed

After many attempts to pull my habitual drinking up this book was the final tool that helped me pull up my bottle of champagne per day habit.
3 weeks on, I’m feeling committed and focused on the facts. Fueled with truth and a clear head I’m now a non drinker.
Thanks Allen Carr

zero start

first, how to control drinking, after you listen for 7 hours you find out there "is no control" tells you to quit drinking all together, also without using "no will power" there was nothing at all about quitting without will power.
I was hoping for some help and found absolutely none from this

Finally I did it

This book has done to me what hours of preaching, shaming, counseling and even medication could not do - it made me realise what was I doing with alcohol and what is the FALLACY that stopped me from winning over this addiction. It's so simple that it's hardly believable. 12 months sober with no regrets. Thanks Allen Carr.

Alcohol free me!

reading the comments to see if your going to buy this book? DO IT! 35 years of drinking is now over for me. Thank you Mr Carr. I have not had a drink since I finished the book, admittedly only 2 weeks but the desire to drink at all has just gone. This is what his method teaches you. I just wish I had read his smoking book all those years ago when I gave those up! I will be listening to all his other too.
