Publisher's Summary
Book 9 in the Ciaphas Cain series.
Hero of the Imperium, the legendary Commissar Ciaphas Cain, is back in the field, and this time he's facing down both the T'au Empire and the tyranids.
Listen to it because....
Treacherous t'au, terrifying tyranids and the irascible Commissar Cain – it all adds up to a classic tale from the master of Warhammer 40,000 comedy-action.
The story:
When the world of Quadravidia comes under attack by the insidious tau, only one man can defeat the aliens and save the planet in the Emperor's name – the legendary Hero of the Imperium, Commissar Ciaphas Cain. When the aliens call for a ceasefire, Cain expects the worst, and his fears are answered in the form of the dread menace of the tyranids. As a hive fleet approaches Quadravidia, Cain must try to forge an alliance between the Imperium and the t'au – but can he truly trust the inscrutable xenos?

misleading title, still a fun book.
I had a good time but only picked up this book because I was expecting it to be focused on interactions with the Tau. it was a tyranids story more then Tau. Tau we're practical a footnote I. comparison

And that's all he wrote (for now)
Last book in the original run of books, its probably 1 too many, the story is a bit formulaic at this point, the tau are written out after 3 chapters. Its overall a great performance, its a good book, maybe there will be more Caine in the future, the author has published one more book since this one. Maybe we get a proper tau teamup book at some point.

If you’re buying this to hear about Tau don’t bother
Story is the same as every other Ciaphas Cain book in existence but the cover is a flat out lie. the Tau only act as messengers they don’t fight alongside as it would imply this is a mechanics book 95% of the time

Disappointing
Love Cain and don’t have much hopes for complex story lines in Black Library books- but this book felt inconsequential and pretty pointless.

Voice actors were perfect. Could swear Amberly was my English teacher 🤣.
Story was typical Cain fun. If you enjoy his exploits, you will enjoy this.

Kind of rote at this point
This was one of my favourite series.
But you get the impression that they kept the author in a basement and wouldn't let him out to see the sun until it was finished. You can feel he's just going through the motions.
Also, disappointingly little Tau for a novel called "For The Greater Good".

has become too repetitive
the story is the thinnest in the series and only the performance made it worth getting through

SPOILER ALERT (Not big ones but still)
All I can say is it was great, the only issues I have are more of a personal nature I'm really hoping that we have seen the last of gene stealers and Tyranids now I was really excited when the story opened with a conflict with the tau only to find we are back to diplomatic relations so fast I can barely remember the context of the battle. that said as per usual the story and voice over was great just really sick of hearing about bugs.... they are in my opinion without doubt the most dull faction in 40k and to be honest if they come up again I might leave the series unfinished just so the vague memories of orks and necrons allow me to remember it very fondly. Again this is personal not general criticism I wouldn't be so arrogant to suggest I represent anything even close to a majority but there is my 2 cents none the less.

Fantastic!
Stephen Perring once again delivers an outstanding performance as Cain in the penultimate novel of the series. Highly recommended for any 40k fan and even those with a casual interest.

a silly, gripping romp
If you're a fan of the Cain archive books, you'll love this. Old characters return, new characters appear, and lots of laughs are had as the 41st millennium's most irreverent victim of imposter syndrome deals with another series of horrific crises. Hopefully GW can get Sandy Mitchell to crank out another 10 books!
