Basic Information and VERY Repetitive

If you’ve never seen or been around a baby in your entire life, then this book may be helpful. As a FTM, I did not find it particularly helpful and think that all the information offered could have easily been condensed into a 2-3 page PDF. There were a few good nuggets, but the author offers his 5Ss - Swaddling, Shushing, Side/Stomach position, Swinging, and Sucking over and over again, sometimes using the exact same paragraphs used earlier in the book. He “debunks” myths with very selective and limited research. It’s okay as a quick and casual listen, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend. Extremely repetitive.

just google the 5 S

What a disorganized and repetitive mess. 5 hours of the same 5s stuff over and over.

Really effective in child calming!

Loved it! We applied techniques from that book as we listened to it daily. Our baby responded so well to 5s's. We kept our sanity thanks to it. Our friends keep saying we make parenting looks so easy.

great book

I really loved this book! It gave me great advice on how to handle my new born! This was my 2nd child, but I feel like listening to this book gave me a whole new handle on having a new child in the house. I wish this book would have addressed having a newborn with another child in the house. I would like to learn some coping mechanisms for that as well

Too much repetition

My expectation was much higher from this book. Too little information on “how to do 5 S” and too much repetition about effectiveness of these 5 strategies.
I feel i did not gain much from this book, i wish i watched the dvd instead, maybe that offers more practical information!

repeat of same information

same information at least 4 times or more. same words and tone. probably audio was edited only to last longer. it could have been done within 1 hour of audio time or so, then it would be a 0.99 cent book so the publisher must have said, you must make the book longer and it was edited with same story over and over again. helpful information I will try on our new born baby but it was done horribly.

A lot of repetitions

There are only few ideas talked repeatedly in all the book. It could have been much shorter. Also it contains a lot of historical facts and how the things are done in other cultures what I didn't find very helpful or relevant.

Really good

Only thing I would say is it was a bit repetitive with the same I for being talked about again and again.

Could have maybe been condensed to just 3 hrs.

But definitely a one you should read/ listen to.

Love!

Great advice and tips!! I appreciated the 5 S’s “checklist”; we will utilize all of these. I also liked how theories were disproven and backed up with scientific evidence.
