Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

She’s a total stranger. But she knows who you are...

Suzi did a bad thing. She’s paying for it now, pregnant, scared, and living in an isolated cottage with her jealous husband, Nick.

When Nora moves into the only house nearby, Suzi is delighted to have a friend. So much so that she’s almost tempted to tell Nora her terrible secret. But there’s more to Nora than meets the eye. It’s impossible - does she already know what Suzi did?

Meanwhile, Elle spends her days in her perfect home, fixated on keeping up appearances. But when her husband betrays her, it unravels a secret going all the way back to her childhood. She’ll do whatever it takes to hold on to him, even if that means murder. After all, she’s done it before...

Caught up in their own secrets and lies, these strangers will soon realise they have more in common than they could ever have imagined. When a shocking event brings them together, their lives will never be the same again.

Confusing Narration, Drawn Out Story

NO SPOILERS! This book is very hard to understand who is speaking. Characters shift in the middle of chapters without an introduction and its very annoying. The story is so so but its more of a mystery drama.

The Other Wife is not what you think

Claire McGowan has written a primer on how to “gaslight” someone. Susie’s husband nIck distrust his wife after finding her caught in an affair. Having “forgiven“ her he unbeknownst to her monitors her every move. Moving her out of London into a remote area, Susie, now pregnant, is left alone during the day with no one around until a woman moves into one of the other cottages next-door.

Nora is the new neighbor. She is also the widow of Susie‘s lover. Thinking the child she carries is her husbands, NORA begins a campaign to ingratiate herself with Susie. Finding that NIck has been controlling Susie’s every move via electronic monitor, Nora, while not telling Susie, she encourages her to leave Nick,

NORA, thinking she would have a comfortable life with pensions, savings, and inheritance money, is rudely awakened by the lawyer who tells her there are no funds whatsoever. Her husband has been siphoning off funds for years and there’s nothing left.
Things escalate and there are many twists and turns. It makes you wonder how well you know those people in whom you have placed trust and love. This was a good read and the audio version was brilliantly performed.

Good listen

This audio book seems obvious at first but manages a few surprises at the end. It was a decent diversion on a long drive!

Impressed

This is a very well crafted story. Complex, flawed characters are well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed and stayed engaged with the book throughout.

Highly Recommend this Twisty Turny Tale!

Awesome story with lots of surprises and a great ending. The narration was spot-on as well, and I'm pretty picky about that.

Forcing myself to finish.

Really terrible story with 3 main characters that are whiny, mean, and boring. I can’t understand the high ranks this book had been given. It’s a predictable poorly written story that has no redeeming value.

Loved first 3/4 of this book.

Pretty predictable in parts. GP content - erm...really? Is that allowed?
First 3/4 was exciting!
Performance makes or breaks an audible book, this was pretty good.

Very disappointing after a decent beginning

Far too many unlikely events. And you cannot die from carbon monoxide by leaving the gas on. And even if you could, the smell would alert most people before it became a problem. Very disappointing.

Terrible narration!

I wanted something easy to listen to as I've just had a baby and knew I'd be dipping in and out of it. The story was ok, although I guessed the 'twist' quite early on. The narration, however, was unbearable. For this reason, I'd probably recommend you're better off reading this book rather than listening to it!

Dull listening

Found this book so dull, tedious and written in a very unsophisticated manner and not all a gripping storyline as I'd hoped from the extract I listened to. Sorry, a waste of money. A refund would be justified I feel.

A slow mystery with unlikeable characters

This was hard to listen to. There were no likeable characters (except one minor character) which made it really hard to care. The repetition of clear points or thoughts became too much several times. The story and plot felt slow and tedious. I just didn't enjoy it at all unfortunately.

The narration wasn't believable in a few parts ... for example the character was going through a trauma but the narration felt flippant. Character voices barely differed and it was hard to remember who was talking.

Great thriller!

This was a great story - really kept me guessing. The characters were well developed, albeit unloveable in most cases. The narration was okay if you are happy with upwards inflections at the end of every second sentence.

Slow start, then great. Full of twists!

At first I was giving it 3 stars but as it progressed, it became 4 stars, then 4.5 stars. Some excellent twists which I didn’t predict. This was my first Claire McGowan book so I’ll look for more.
