Taken to a new level
So impressed by how much this series has developed. This one is fast paced and exciting while embroiling us in the murky day to day history of the Raj and the sordid treatment of India leading towards the atrocity of British bungled Partition. It also takes the characters of Sam and Surendranath to far greater depth, with Surendranath being the hero this time. Shadowy indeed.

Packed with action and history
I have so enjoyed all of the five books... this book packs punch after punch.. a wonderful narration of 1920s India...the political heat is really ramped up in this novel... the war between Muslims, Hindus and the British... with the British still on top causing mayhem...
I have become very attached to the main characters Suren, Sam and Annie.
I enjoy the scenes set by the author which gives a taste of the beauty and life in India..
Action packed and thrilling... a great page turner.. I always feel sad when the story ends.. with a cliff hanger.. I’m sure there’ll be more...
This book doesn’t disappoint..

Superb
Mystery, suspense, period detail and an insight into the oppression of imperial rule in India that cannot but impact the reader through the fate of a beloved character, however uncomfortable those truths might be.

A gem of dual narrative
I've enjoyed all of these stories & this was as good as any. Well drawn characters, tight plot, interwoven with the historical background. Excellent narration really added to the project.

A brilliant edition to a brilliant series
Abir Mukherjee puts in one of the best in this extremely fine series. The audio performances are outstanding.
Especially enjoyed the dual first person narration of both Wyndham and Banerjee in this book. Looking forward to more from this fantastic series.
