Bland and not intriguing
This novel could’ve been made much more interesting and intriguing by the author had she made Catherine Cordell as the serial killer in this pierce of work. Now that would be some eye opening suspense for the readers.

Scary, full of suspense but with a cliche ending.
The story build up was spectacular and the writing bone chilling. However, I associate this book with GOT. The climax is a huge disappointment. The suspense could have been better broken and the cliche ending could have been definitely avoided. But the book does take your mind into deep wells of fear.

Gruesome but gripping thriller
Very well written and intense thriller about the Boston PD homicide unit as they chase a vicious serial killer nicknamed The Surgeon because he cuts out his victims' uterus's while they're alive and then slits their throats and keeps the excised organ as a trophy. In this book we are introduced to Detective Jane Rizzoli, the only woman in Boston PD's homicide unit who is aggressive and territorial about the case and desperately wants to catch him. The killer seems to be focused on women who were previously raped and he is stalking a female trauma surgeon named Catherine Cordell who was the final victim of a similar series of murders in Savannah, Georgia and would have died if she hadn't managed to get an arm free and shoot the man attacking her. However despite the death of her assailant the killer stalking her now seems to know all about her ordeal and is using a campaign of terror to psychologically torment her. Great book, the first in the Rizzoli and Isles Series.

Not for me
Didn't enjoy this. Too long winded and a little too graphic that added nothing to the story

Top-notch Police Procedural/serial killer-thriller
This was my first Tess Gerritsen novel. It will certainly not be my last. You do not need to venture far into the novel to realise that the author is of the Top rank. The story just flows. You are gripped and it is difficult to put the book down. Nothing grates ......If you are squeamish you might want to give it a miss but otherwise you should not miss it!
Do not expect to meet Isles -she does not appear in book one!
Rizzoli , though one of the main cast, is not the main character in this one by any means, nor does she resemble the TV character that much... But that should not out you off..
I already have most of the series queuing up on my Kindle and I am very much looking forward to being immersed!

Good but not great
This is a fairly standard murder mystery thriller. Serial killer outwits cops who don't follow some fairly obvious leads. One woman cop who is bullied but stands up for herself. Etc. Etc.
I will say that the characters in this had more flaws and moral depth than in your standard thriller and once the story got going 2-3 hours in it really picked up and by the end was quite compelling. I do think it could have been trimmed a bit by the editor but it was ok.
The narration was very quiet though. On all my devices I had to dial the volume up quite a few notches from what I would expect on normal audiobooks. This wasn't great when I switched from audiobook to car radio for the news.
Fair warning as well, in this book Rizzoli is a co-star and Isles doesn't yet exist. I haven't seen more than a few episodes of the TV series but I still found it a bit odd for the first book in a series called "Rizzoli & Isles".

Macabre but gripping, well-written and well-read.
I found this gripping enough to hold my attention, with good characterisation and excellent narration. It was rather heavy on surgical detail and very gruesome in places, but I'll read more in the series.

Okay-ish
Was overly long and just miserable throughout. Hated the Rizzoli character and so many stupid mistakes by the police. Thank goodness for the tv adaption. Won't be reading another Gerritson novel.

Rather grizzly
Introducing Rizzoli - who is spiky and friendless. Got to this through enjoying the later novels - glad I decided to read the back catalogue.

Terrible. A waste of time.
Tortuous. Contrived story with a resolution so unrealistic I almost laughed. Author has some serious men issues the prejudice was unrelenting - all men are predators in bars, dads that like their sons more, dads that don’t comfort a rape victim, shop keepers who peeve on young girls, workmates that bully and “even the ones who seem good you don’t really know”. Only listened to the end because I’d already pod and was hoping it may redeem itself at the end. Sadly no.

Too bloody and gruesome
Nah. Not for me, all the gory detail. Interesting for a while, but jumped to the end. I think its weird to write this stuff.

the gory descriptions got in the way
I found it hard to keep picking it u p.. The too graphic descriptions clouded what was a decent storyline, almost like showing off the authors medical knowledge. I did finish over a long period, hard to go back too, and got more pleasure from the last few chapters. not sure I could ever recommend other than strong stomachs.. good standard of writing so stick to what you do best.

Not Bad
This book isn’t a bad listen. Not the best but not the worst. Rizzoli is a bit of a wanka. I found her hard to like. Will get the 2nd book but if she doesn’t get a better attitude I won’t continue. Angry women are boring and common.

The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen
Iam so glad the cought The Surgeon .& his side kick ..I think all men who rape and destroy lives should be chemically castrated
and tattooed on the forehead
so its visible to all .Thank you Tess Gerritsen for writing this book Thank you Laurel Lefcow for reading to me 💜💜
