Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

A much-used word, karma is loosely understood as a system of checks and balances in our lives, of good actions and bad deeds, of good thoughts and bad intentions. A system that seemingly ensures that at the end of the day one gets what one deserves. This grossly oversimplified understanding has created many complexities in our lives and taken away from us the very fundamentals of the joy of living.

Publisher's Summary
2021 Audiobook of the Year - The British Book Awards.
The Sunday Times number one best seller.
Jay Shetty, social media superstar and host of the number one podcast ‘On Purpose’, distils the timeless wisdom he learned as a practising monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life.
Over the past three years, Jay Shetty has become a favourite in the hearts and minds of millions of people worldwide. One of his clips was the most watched video on Facebook last year, with over 360 million views. His social media following totals over 32 million, he has produced over 400 viral videos, which have amassed more than 5 billion views, and his podcast, ‘On Purpose’, is consistently ranked the world’s #1 health-related podcast.
In this inspiring, empowering book, Shetty draws on his time as a monk in the Vedic tradition to show us how we can clear the roadblocks to our potential and power. Drawing on ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, Think Like a Monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits, and access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us.
The lessons monks learn are profound but often abstract. Shetty transforms them into advice and exercises we can all apply to reduce stress, improve focus, improve relationships, identify our hidden abilities, increase self-discipline and give the gifts we find in ourselves to the world. Shetty proves that everyone can – and should – think like a monk

Over Rated and Shallow
I personally think this book was by far the worst book I've ever read ... thank god for Audible's policy for returning books. The author is not a monk, his observations and revelations lack deapth and authenticity. It seems like a ploy to use his platform to confuse people enough so as to believe he's some enlightened fellow. Absolute waste of time.

Extremely surface level - nothing original
Nothing against Jay because he seems like a good dude but this is clearly so highly rated because he has fans among the Instagram/Social Media generation who have never read up on spirituality/self help. If, like me, you have read a few self help books, you’ll have already heard 90% of what’s in here before as most of it is regurgitated stuff from other authors. There’s nothing original whatsoever really, and is dangerously trite throughout. ‘Be in the present moment, journal, write down gratitudes, find the awareness behind your ego’ etc etc. It’s all stuff you’ve heard 1000x before in the genre and offers little insight or anything new.

Theres Nothing New Under the Sun
As much as there was great wisdom advice and stories shared. none of of was new or revolutionary. I also couldn't help but feel patronised on occasions , when speaking in rhetorics it often came from the negative perspective e.g. when you wake up in the morning is the first thing you do reach for your phone ... I will however read this again as it was good to get a fuller understanding of dharma and sewa.

This book will transform your life!
Simple. Practical. Authentic.
This audible version of Jay reading his book can only be described as the best ever narrated by author book on audible i have ever heard
Positive, eloquent and high energy from start to finish - i can only describe this to be a 10 hr podcast by Jay that you just don’t want to turn off or even miss a word spoken.
Completed this 10 hr narration in a single day - yes. It is THAT good!
Ancient wisdom articulated in how to apply in this modern world in a useful and practical way will surely only have one outcome. And that is Jay succeeding in his vision of making wisdom go viral.

Don’t believe the hype...
Jay seems like a great guy so this isn’t a dig at him but the book is only okay. Nothing mind blowing or life changing there for me.... the hugely positive reviews here baffle me to be honest.
This is probably one of those books I’ll never listen to again. I can honestly say I’ve heard about 20% of it before anyway as general self-help stuff concepts. If you’re really stuck to find a book to listen to, then maybe give it a listen, otherwise, I’d pass.

The new Bible of our time.
Now I know that headline will get me in trouble, but seriously this book if followed, can only bring good to our world. Thank you Jay Shetty for doing the work 🙏🏻 and condensing it into a book that we can all go away from ( or if you’re like me read again and again) and go forward with meaning in our lives. New tools that help us create that soul centred life we are all chasing but didn’t know we were. I am so grateful to have read this and to have the right questions to ask of and for myself.
Almost instantly I am drinking my food and chewing my water 😂🤣. I am keeping within my most productive quadrant and I am looking at the old in new ways. Nothing is mundane anymore. You have inspired in me the service of my dharma and I am excited because I asked where the motivation came from to want to do this and it is a place of love and care.
I’m sure it will take a lifetime to tame my ego but each day and new practices will now be its monitor.
Seriously grab a copy of this book, it is what we all need.

Highly highly recommend
I don't generally leave reviews unless I feel an impact. 'Think Like a Monk' provides so many aspects that I will find it hard to believe if each person that reads it doesn't take something of value from it. I couldn't stop listening and I also purchased the hard copy to refer to. I've read many books and I think this may be the best and most life changing one. Do yourself a favour, read it and be open to the suggestions on how to improve your life and thoughts.

Who doesn't want a Monk Mind?
Absolutely fantastic!
It has so many great life lessons and Jay is just so humble. He reads the book to you and it was great because it felt like you are in a conversation and a coaching session. I would recommend this book for anyone he wants to start changing their thinking patterns and look depth within, so that they can develop their true authentic selves or as Jay refers to it their "Monk Mind" . The activities Jay includes in the book are fantastic and I couldn't help myself and have now purchased the hard copy of the book so that I can go through these at my own time and pace.
Definitely a major winner and won't disappoint!

Finally a book from Jay
Just when I thought how to learn basics of meditation, the book was offered for presale. Bought it immediately. Needless to say I didn't go wrong.
Jay will teach you how to make your mind your friend in an easy and digestible way. I loved this book. I'll listen to it many times over.
Thanks Jay and audible for making this happen for a little price comparing to the value.

A handful of Apples to take away
It's handful of delicious and nutritious fruits to take away from Jay's book. I've always liked his tone so that I'm very happy he reads his own book this time. The book is structured in order hence it is easy to follow the flow of the lessons. A must read, food for the soul.
