About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Essential lessons in hospitality for every business, from the former co-owner of legendary restaurant Eleven Madison Park.

Will Guidara was twenty-six when he took the helm of Eleven Madison Park, a struggling two-star brasserie that had never quite lived up to its majestic room. Eleven years later, EMP was named the best restaurant in the world.

How did Guidara pull off this unprecedented transformation? Radical reinvention, a true partnership between the kitchen and the dining room—and memorable, over-the-top, bespoke hospitality. Guidara’s team surprised a family who had never seen snow with a magical sledding trip to Central Park after their dinner; they filled a private dining room with sand, complete with mai-tais and beach chairs, to console a couple with a cancelled vacation. And his hospitality extended beyond those dining at the restaurant to his own team, who learned to deliver praise and criticism with intention; why the answer to some of the most pernicious business dilemmas is to give more—not less; and the magic that can happen when a busser starts thinking like an owner.

Today, every business can choose to be a hospitality business—and we can all transform ordinary transactions into extraordinary experiences. Featuring sparkling stories of his journey through restaurants, with the industry’s most famous players like Daniel Boulud and Danny Meyer, Guidara urges us all to find the magic in what we do—for ourselves, the people we work with, and the people we serve.

This is such an amazing and in my opinion, a must read for all hospitality professionals.
I picked it up from 'The Bear' and been such an experience reading this.

The author, who also is the narrator has explained big things in such simplicity, it's really amazing.

I really enjoyed the parts of how to read people, picking clues and going beyond the expectations, back to basics etc.

Kudos!

Yall mustve read rich dad poor dad; well if yes this book might resonate to you. kinda similar genre; i dont believe in this karma and all stuff; but in the book, there are real and practical consequences of how 'being nice' in business, to comsumers and workaround and team, like, yeah It opens so many positive opportunities for good incentives to drop in. Team's efficiency increases by including them, how nice gestures result in customer being hooked to you (even despite of sometimes your product not being the best fit to them), and here as he (the author) proposes that such soft skills are helpful to one; reading the book you'll also be able to slowly re-enact those manners into your workaround, if you want a healthy environment + the benefits of it. its a good one time read i'd say (or a one time listen lol)

so its a leadership philosophy kinda stuff, intellectuals may also like it cuz of the philosophic elements, and business people could give it a read.
peace.

Crisp and powerful.
As a person from the same industry, I find myself more driven and motivated to push forward the idea of hospitality which was formless earlier.
The downs are challenging but the ups are worth all of it.
Thank you for relighting the spark in me.

Reasonably brilliant!

This audiobook completely changed how I think about service and leadership. Will Guidara’s stories from Eleven Madison Park are inspiring, funny, and surprisingly emotional. I loved how he connects small acts of care to big business success — it’s not just about restaurants, but about treating people exceptionally in any field. His narration makes it feel even more personal and real. Some examples may feel extravagant, but the core message—go beyond what’s expected—stays with you. A must-listen for anyone who values teamwork, service, or simply making others feel special.
