Break free from anxiety and be free to live a full, happy life with internationally renowned psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr Judson Brewer - based on over 20 years of research and his simple habit-breaking programme.

We are living through one of the most anxious periods any of us can remember. Whether facing issues as public as a pandemic and political upheaval or as personal as having kids at home fighting the urge to reach for the wine bottle every night, we are feeling overwhelmed and out of control. But in this timely book, Judson Brewer explains how to uproot anxiety at its source using brain-based techniques and small hacks accessible to anyone.

We think of anxiety as everything from mild unease to full-blown panic. But it's also what drives the addictive behaviours and bad habits we use to cope (e.g. stress eating, procrastination, doom scrolling and social media). Plus, anxiety lives in a part of the brain that resists rational thought. So we get stuck in anxiety habit loops that we can't think our way out of or use willpower to overcome. Dr Brewer teaches us map our brains to discover our triggers, defuse them with the simple but powerful practice of curiosity and to train our brains using mindfulness and other practices that his lab has proven can work.

Distilling more than 20 years of research and hands-on work with thousands of patients, including Olympic athletes and coaches, and leaders in government and business, Dr Brewer has created a clear, solution-oriented programme that anyone can use to feel better - no matter how anxious they feel.

Game changer for Generalised Anxiety Disorder

I’ve become pretty much obsessed with trying to understand and alleviate my anxiety since I noticed how much time it takes up. Even if I resolved issues I was worrying about something else would take its place. I was beginning to accept that this is just life and I’m just a worrier. After listening to this book I’m convinced there is a solution to my anxiety.

When people write in reviews that the book is life changing, I’ll read it eagerly but it rarely has the same impact on me. This book however may well be that book for me.

It just hit home on so many ways. Many examples made me say out loud “I do that” or OMG that’s me! The gears make perfect sense, the exercises are short, practical, accessible and completely eye opening.

Habit loops! So simple to understand when you can see them. I live my life in these loops good and bad. There have been too many bad ones created or exacerbated by this last challenging year and this book is already helping me see more clearly. What an amazing find after listening to a new podcast. Thank you!

Not what I expected but...

...this is the best book on mindfulness I have ever read!

Rather than Michael Singer's Untethered Soul and all his lectures which have helped me and I am currently absorbing, Dr Jud actualy explains the science as to how mindfulness works in the brain.

I found that aspect a little dry on my first listen but when I got to the end I was keen to go through it again to really process them, as it really solidifies what he's teaching in addition to the practices which I have found fun, rewarding and actually useful for my constant anxiety.

When he does touch on typical mindfulness explainations they are usually simple and effective, cited from the appropriate sources rather than having a spiritual teacher explain their view on 'the way you should be to allow the flow' which if not understood can wear you down.

As he explains, the methods described take no effort in a sense when you can develop them as automated habits and the associated habit loops of self judgement etc are also addressed so clearly, you want to do the work because it feels good.

In a sentence, I feel so much better.

This is the first review I have ever written because I want everyone to read this book, especially if you have anxiety.

PDF?

Can anyone else not find the PDF file chapter 9 specifically says is included with this book?
The book itself is good so far, however I'm only at chapter 9 so I'll have to update my review when I finish (:
