Publisher's Summary

If you’re thinking about buying this book, it’s probably because it feels like something’s missing in your career.

Guess what? It could be you.

Whether you’re living for the weekends or counting the minutes until 5:00 pm every day, life is too short to wish it away because you feel stuck in your job. The good news is that you have the power to stop living on autopilot and turn your career around.

“Follow your passion”, “find your purpose”, and “do what you love” have joined the parade of bland directives that aren’t doing much to help you figure out what you’re meant to do with your career. The truth is the best career is not one where you only do what you love, but one where you honor who you are.

In You Turn, counterterrorism-professional-turned-career-coach Ashley Stahl shares the strategies she’s used to help thousands ditch their Monday blues, get clarity on what work lights them up, and devise an action plan to create a career they love.

This book gives listeners access to Stahl’s coveted 11-step road map that has guided thousands of coaching clients in 31 countries to self-discovery and success. Throughout her process, you’ll:

  • Discover your core skillset. Uncover your gifts and talents to create an intentional career path that’s fulfilling and aligned with who you are - and what you’re good at
  • Understand your “inner money blueprint”. Discover the root of your money mindset, and how to break free of financial limitation
  • Clarify your core interests. Identify the difference between a passion, gift, and calling, so you can get clear on what’s meant to be a hobby - and what’s meant to be a career
  • Become your own coach. Walk away with a unique set of tools for staying true to your best self in times of stress, frustration, or anxiety

Whether you’re considering a career pivot or just curious about what else is possible for you, it’s time to make a “you turn” - to get unstuck, discover your true self, and thrive (not just survive) in your career.

Brought tears to my eyes

I LOVE this book! Just some weeks back I was depressed and literally near suicidal, this book has literally given me a reason to live by helping me find my calling! It helped me realize that I’m NOT CRAZY. For the first time in a very long time I felt heard, understood and uplifted. If you’re thinking about getting it, JUST DO IT! Trust me, you won’t regret it.

A workaholics story

This is an interesting book and the author did an amazing job narrating however, I didn’t expect this to be an autobiography of her career. I was hoping to delve more into values, finding my ambition and motivation, and helping me open new doors to guide me along my journey. I ended up learning more about Ashley than I needed to and did not gain anything the average person doesn’t already know about self.
Her story is interesting, but not at all relatable. I would only recommend this book to people that have and are all of the following: graduate degree, workaholic, and entrepreneurs going through a rut.

Surprising really good

I did not expect a sel-help type of book to actually be really good. I’d never heard of this person before but her life sounded very fascinating. It’s not just another boss babe book with regurgitated content. This woman has legit substance.

Soooo helpful for me

At first I didn't get why Ashley was telling so many personal stories. I was used to job hunting books structured with exercise after exercise like What Color is Your Parachute? But I relaxed into it and the lessons started coming one after another, as a short, helpful chapters rolled on. By the end I was tearing up and deeply relating to her authenticity and choice to pursue her childhood vision of happiness. Sometimes we really complicate things. I can confidently say that this is not at all the same but equally useful as Parachute. it really takes on the mindset piece which is so critical to getting on a right fit path. I predict it becomes a job hunting/life structuring standard.

a great listen that inspired action

I got the book cos its time for a u turn and it was one of the first books shown on the audible list.
I looked Ashley online and thought how is she possibly credible she looks too young.
But she is credible and her book is very good - building confidence in the things you need to do to get a job that'll fulfill you. Its had a positive influence on me and inspired action - unlike the impact most books of this type have on me.
She's a good writer/communicator with good content and a good narrator.
More of a 4.5 than a 4...

About getting the employment, not self-employment.

I mistook this book to be about finding direction when seeking what to do for work but soon found it is actually for how to apply for jobs. (Its clearly more detailed than that, my comment for brevity!).
I picked up interesting snippets at the start for finding direction regardless of employment but by around half way through it was 100% about applying for jobs. I'm not seeking employment so it isn't for me as I'm a freelancer.

it is also a book not fit for audible. I imagine it is far better to have the actual book as there are a lot of written exercises.

Having said that the narrator is great and kept me listening longer than i needed!

Soul Searching Advice

Ashley Stahl tells her story from a point of view that will resonate with most, the truth of the book (her story) suggest that we all follow the premise that others know what is best for us - including career choices. It is this idea that Ashley unpacks through out her book, demostrating that you don't have to sell your soul to be successful.

Worth a read

interesting insight into the ups and downs involved in a business and also in the trust people put into other people, reading alot of these types of books shows me that the writers have an inflated opinion of themselves and sometimes it isnt always necessary or even nice to read.

A quality read!

I loved this book, will definitely listen to it one more time because some chapters have practical questions for deep introspection.
Ashley's tone of voice is so beautiful and easy to listen to! I enjoyed her career story from graduating university till now. This book is a perfect mix of storytelling and practical tips on how to pivot in your career if that is what you desire to, but don't have the courage yet! Highly recommended for all confused individuals who are on the fence and considering doing the work they are supposed and MEANT to do, rather than fitting in or doing the work they they think they SHOULD do. Get a pen and paper and get ready to learn about yo
urself during the process of reading this book!
