I want to get across that adoption is really based on grief and loss. I know that is quite a statement and might sound discouraging, but it is true and in this podcast I will talk a lot about this topic. I will explain how whatever is gained by the adoption doesn't cancel the loss experienced by all members of the adoption triad.

Over the years I have talked to a number of adoptive families in our education classes. They always had questions about talking to their kids about their adoption. Especially before open adoption when birth moms and birth families weren’t in the picture. Now, with open adoption the birth mom can be a part of their lives and eventually be able to explain her story directly to the child.
