• Episode 6: Ronald Brise - Policy, Patients and who real shapes Healthcare
    Oct 3 2026

A CONVERSATION ON POLICY, PATIENTS, AND WHO REALLY SHAPES HEALTHCARE

In this episode of the Apex Health Podcast, Dr. Alex Evans and Candice Caesar, PMHNP, speak with Ronald A. Brisé, Vice President and Senior Advisor at Arrow Group, a subsidiary of Gunster. Ronald has seen policy from nearly every seat. He began his career as a science teacher, served as a North Miami planning commissioner and in the Florida House of Representatives, and went on to chair the Florida Public Service Commission. Today he advises companies and executives on how to work with government.

That path gives him a clear view of how healthcare decisions are made and who is in the room when they are. The conversation starts with a gap. Policymakers think in terms of coverage, programs, and funding. Patients think in terms of access, affordability, and outcomes. Providers are caught between the two and are often consulted only after a law is written. From there, the discussion turns to mental health parity, the incentives that favor treatment over prevention, and the questions worth asking before AI or any new technology is brought into care. At the center of the discussion is a simple idea: coverage is not the same thing as care. Patients are the one group without an organized seat at the table, and Ronald lays out practical ways for them to be heard.

IN THIS EPISODE - Why coverage is not the same thing as care - How policymakers, patients, and providers each see healthcare differently - Why clinicians are often heard only after a law is written - Mental health parity and the four levers for access: workforce, fair reimbursement, integration, and technology - Who influences healthcare policy, and why patients lack an organized voice - What two decades of autism advocacy by parents shows about changing coverage - Why incentives favor treatment over prevention - How any citizen can track a bill, contact a legislator, and testify - The questions to ask before adopting AI in care, and how it can help clinicians stay present with patients

Nauman’s work is deeply personal. • Episode 2: The Future of AI in Medicine — with Dr. Alex Evans, MD
    Aug 4 2026

Episode 2: The Future of AI in Medicine — with Dr. Alex Evans, MD

The conversation about artificial intelligence in healthcare is usually a conversation about speed. Faster documentation, faster coding, higher throughput.

Dr. Alex Evans thinks that framing misses the point entirely.

After 25 years in trauma surgery and now as Chief Medical Officer at Apex Health, he argues that the last fifteen years of health technology delivered extraordinary data at a specific cost: physician attention. The screen got the doctor's eyes. The patient got what was left.

In this episode, he makes the case that the real measure of AI in medicine isn't how much it automates — it's whether it returns the physician to the patient. We get into where the technology genuinely helps, where it quietly makes things worse, and what he tells medical students who are entering a profession being rebuilt around tools that didn't exist when he trained.

  • Episode 1 - Heathcare at a glance with _Daffodil Baez / CEO Fort Washington Hospital
    Jul 28 2026
Episode 1: Healthcare After the Curve – Leadership in an Era of Rising Costs, Regulation & Artificial Intelligence

Healthcare is at a pivotal moment. Rising costs, increasing regulatory demands, workforce shortages, payer pressures, and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing how care is delivered. For healthcare leaders, employers, providers, and policymakers, the challenge is no longer simply adapting to change—it's leading through it.

In the inaugural episode of The Apex Health Podcast, hosts Scott Patterson and Dr. Alex Evans sit down with Daffodil Baez, Chief Executive Officer of Fort Washington Medical Center, for an insightful conversation on the realities of leading a hospital during one of the most transformative periods in modern healthcare.

Drawing from years of executive leadership, Daffodil shares firsthand perspectives on navigating operational challenges while maintaining a relentless focus on patient care. The discussion explores how healthcare organizations are responding to escalating costs, evolving reimbursement models, regulatory complexity, and the increasing expectations placed on hospitals to deliver better outcomes with fewer resources.

Artificial intelligence is also reshaping healthcare at an unprecedented pace. The conversation examines where AI is creating meaningful value, where it still faces limitations, and how leaders can thoughtfully integrate technology without losing the human connection that remains at the heart of quality care. Rather than replacing clinicians, AI has the potential to enhance decision-making, improve workflows, and enable providers to spend more time with patients.

The episode also addresses the growing influence of employers and benefits leaders in shaping healthcare delivery. As organizations continue searching for innovative ways to improve employee health while controlling costs, collaboration between providers, employers, and technology partners has never been more important.

Throughout the discussion, listeners will gain practical insights into leadership, innovation, healthcare transformation, operational resilience, and the future of patient-centered care. Whether you're a healthcare executive, physician, employer, HR leader, benefits consultant, broker, or someone passionate about improving healthcare, this conversation offers valuable perspectives from those leading change every day.

    In this episode, you'll learn:
    • Why healthcare costs continue to rise and what leaders can do about it.
    • How regulation is changing the healthcare landscape.
    • The opportunities and challenges artificial intelligence presents for healthcare organizations.
    • The evolving relationship between hospitals, employers, insurers, and patients.
    • Leadership strategies for navigating uncertainty and driving organizational transformation.
    • Why innovation and collaboration are essential to improving healthcare outcomes.

The Apex Health Podcast brings together healthcare executives, physicians, innovators, employers, and industry experts for candid conversations about the future of healthcare. Each episode explores practical solutions, emerging technologies, leadership strategies, and innovative models designed to improve patient outcomes while reducing costs.
