About this listen

"Belly Button Musings" is a podcast for anyone who wants to experience whimsical wisdom pulled from the navel. Each episode looks at an aspect of life chosen through intuition and experienced through life. The belly button is seen as spiritual and symbolic in many traditions representing a connection to the cosmic, the universe and ancestral wisdom. In yoga and Eastern philosophies, the navel is associated with the vital energy centre known as Manipura Chakra. We share stories and gently explore life themes to improve our relationship to our lives, appreciating we are not alone in our experiences. We contemplate through the navel, with the energy of a light shower of rain, reflections and learnings to provide a new awareness and insight into how a life could be lived. • Exploring the Deep Waters
    Feb 16 2026
In this soul-stirring episode, Harinder invites listeners to venture beyond the surface of their daily lives and dive into the ‘deep waters’ of their own psyche. Using the evocative metaphor of diving for pearls, Harvinder explores the internal treasures, talents, gifts, and memories that often remain buried due to childhood conditioning or societal expectations. The episode serves as a gentle yet powerful call to reclaim one’s sovereignty by acknowledging every part of the self, including the shadows. KEY TAKEAWAYS We often present an edited version of ourselves to the world based on what we were told as children, that we were ‘too much’, ‘messy’, or ‘shameful’. True sovereignty is defined as putting your arms around all of yourself: what you like, what you don't like, and what you don't yet know. Many avoid their inner depths out of fear of what they might find, but without exploring these ‘caverns’, we never truly know who we are or what we are capable of. The journey inward is rarely logical; it is driven by emotions like curiosity, sadness, restlessness, or a longing for unanswered questions. Connecting with the ‘shadow self" allows for the release of suppressed energy and memories stored in the body, leading to a more colorful and fully realised life. BEST MOMENTS "Am I really living a full life? Do I really know all that I'm capable of? Do I know what treasures, what gifts, what talents I have that have always existed within me?" "I feel that we have a responsibility to know ourselves … to return to our sovereignty." "If I don’t take a torch down into my deep water, if I don’t take a light and explore those caverns, then what do I really have? What do I really know about who I am?" "The greatest love affair we have is with ourselves." "By understanding our own self more thoroughly, of course it’s going to change our relationship to the world." Not new to podcasting, I have previously co-created a mini podcast series called How to Land Your Ideal Job. With this podcast series, I wanted to share my life learnings particularly during the fallow period of life when my life’s direction has not been clear and I’ve had to dig deep below the various identities I had collected and assumed to reconnect with who I really am. Digging through the proverbial lead to share golden nuggets of insight. I hope to take people on mellow belly button contemplations that lead to questions for self inquiry and open up new imagined possibilities to new realities. • Opposing Values
    Feb 9 2026
In this episode, Harinder explores the paralysing feeling of being ‘stuck’ or oscillating between two seemingly contradictory choices. Using her personal journey with money as a case study, she discusses how she previously held ‘Freedom’ and ‘Hard Work’ as opposing values, believing she had to sacrifice one to achieve the other. Harinder shares the pivotal moment she decided to unify these values, visualising a reality where they co-existed, and how this internal shift led to an immediate external opportunity. KEY TAKEAWAYS Feeling ‘stuck’ often stems from oscillating between two values we perceive as opposites (e.g., freedom vs. hard work), creating a situation where we feel we must sacrifice something important to move forward. Instead of choosing ‘either/or’, we can choose ‘and’. By asking ourselves if seemingly opposing values can both be true, we stop creating false dichotomies that limit our potential. The universe acts as a mirror; when we resolve our internal conflicts and align our beliefs, external opportunities often present themselves almost immediately. The brain does not distinguish between an imagined reality and the real thing. Allowing yourself to deeply feel the emotions of your desired reality (where your values are unified) is a powerful tool for manifestation. If an area of your life isn't moving or feels like a struggle, it is likely a reflection of an internal misalignment. Looking inward to find where you are diametrically opposed to yourself is the first step toward freedom. BEST MOMENTS "I can't make a decision because I feel that I might be giving up something for something else." "What if both of those qualities can be true, are true? And because I've separated them out, I'm creating the 'either/or' scenario, not the 'and.' “ "Our brain doesn't know the difference between an imagined reality and the real thing." "It was that simple. And what had taken so much effort before and hadn't worked out was suddenly possible, suddenly happening." "It's always a reflection of what's going on on the inside. And what bits have we cast out of ourselves, that require that reunification?" • Cosy Comforts
    Feb 2 2026
Today, Harinder and Alicia explore the theme of ‘Cosy Comforts’. Together, they dive into the sensory experiences that bring us peace, from the warmth of a blanket on a rainy day to the emotional safety found in a loved one’s embrace. Harinder and Alicia discuss how ‘escapism’ can actually be a grounding form of self-care and share personal stories about family, childhood memories, and the simple rituals that help quiet the mind. KEY TAKEAWAYS Creating a cosy moment is often a premeditated act of self-love. It is about consciously choosing to relish an experience without guilt. Allowing yourself to ‘escape’, whether into a K-drama or by staring out a window, can be a way to centre yourself, affirming that you are safe enough to let your mind wander. You don't need to be in your living room to find peace; comfort can be found in a busy train station, a coffee shop, or even just by looking up at the sky. Just as we seek safety, we can become a source of stillness and security for the people we love, creating a beautiful, mutual cycle of care. Children are experts at identifying and demanding exactly what they need to feel safe, reminding adults that it is vital to recognise and honor our own needs for comfort. BEST MOMENTS "It's very much a place we go to, to relax, take it easy... melting, being able to let go, feel safe and secure." "There's no guilt involved. It's something that you are consciously doing to love yourself, to say, 'Yeah, you know what? I count.' Let me do something that's going to be fun for me." "Just allowing myself to fully be physically. I know that I'm in a safe enough place that I can go and do that with my mind." "There's a portable cosy memory, a memory you have you could use to bring you back to that cosy and safe space." "For me to feel that he feels so anchored and so still, there's a huge benefit to our health when we experience something like that."
