• Is Jealousy Bad?
    Oct 14 2021

In the first part of this episode, Talethea describes her trip to Saint Louis, where she spent a weekend with the ladies from the Fixin’ Crowns Book Club. They visited some amazing places, did some crazy things, tried some good food, and had a wonderful weekend. Listen to her tips and recommendations. The featured spectacular woman of the week is Alice Martin. To learn more about her, listen to episode 17, where she was Talethea’s guest.

In the second part of this episode, Talethea ponders about jealousy and envy. We all deal with it to a degree. But is jealousy bad? Do we want to be jealous? Do we want to feel resentment, bitterness, or hostility towards anybody because they have something we do not have? Is it possible to want something someone else has without feeling bad about it? Join the discussion and share your thoughts about that.

    Episode Highlights

05:25 - When we go on these trips, we try to stay at the same hotel.

24:40 - Check us out - you can find the Fixin’ Crowns Book Club on Facebook.

26-27 - The featured woman of the week is Alice Martin. I like how she made her side hustle be something that genuinely speaks to her.

29:33 - I listened to Rachel Rogers, who talked about the idea I want to discuss in this episode: Is Jealousy Bad? Jealousy or envy?

51:50 - Brainstorming - what do you do to help yourself to get over feeling envious or jealous?

  • More Than Just Jumping a Rope with Pamela Robinson
    Sep 23 2021

In this episode, Talethea introduces Pamela Robinson and the 40+ Double Dutch Club she has started. Pamela started the Club in May of 2016, and the Club has grown to a nationwide Double Dutch movement since. At first, they met twice a week in summer. When they started to grow, the members wanted to meet during wintertime also. Now they are meeting indoors and outdoors throughout the year. According to Pamela, 40+ Double Dutch Club is so much more than having something fun to do. It is beneficial not only for their physical health but also for their emotional and spiritual health.

If you want to start a 40+ Double Dutch sub-club, inbox Pamela on Facebook and she will let you know how to start a group.

    Episode Highlights

10:24 - At our age, we’re always looking for ways to work out, but a lot of us do not really like working out. But we like to jump Double Dutch, so you’re now working out. But what is surprising are the bonds that have formed.

13:33 - It just shows the power of God and the fact that God can bring so many women together over a Double Dutch rope. But that’s what He used to bring us all together.

18:30 - It is never too late to follow your dream. It is never too late to find a new passion.

20:37 - One of my goals is to show women that, no matter what your age is, you can still embrace your natural beauty.

27:07 - I think that men go through a midlife crisis. But a lot of women experience a midlife crossroads. What I do next can be even bigger and better than what I did for the first part of my life.

  • Fighting for Your Limitations
    Sep 16 2021

In this episode, Talethea introduces a new segment of the Chapter Next Podcast: Featured spectacular woman for the week. This week it is Symone Groover. Listen to episode 10, to find out more about her and the Fixin’ Crowns Book Club she started about a year ago.

The subject of this episode is fighting for your limitations. According to Talethea, our limitations prevent us from succeeding and living out our dream. So, why do we fight for them? Where are those thoughts coming from? How to deal with them? What is your definition of success? Listen to Talethea as she dives in, asking those questions and giving some tips on how to stop fighting for those limitations. Remember - you are the only thing that is holding you back. In the Brainstorming segment, Talethea shares the answer to the previous question and asks the next one.

    Episode Highlights

06:53 - The only reason limitations work is because we are fighting for them.

09:12 - Even if you cannot do that the way they suggested, it could be a start. It could be the first step that you take to find the solution that you need.

15:11 - It is a mind shift. Instead of defending this limitation, start focusing on a solution. You have to do it. The mind shift has to come from you.

22:55 - You have to define your definition of success. You cannot let someone else do it for you.

30:56 - Brainstorming. The question is from a woman from a Facebook group for people that try to get their finances in order - How to go back to school for free?

  • My Brand as a Person is Valuable with Alice Martin
    Sep 9 2021

In this episode, Talethea welcomes Alice Martin. She is 42, a mother of four, and she has a Master’s in Healthcare Administration. Alice shares her story, how she transferred from childcare to healthcare, from a nurse to a marketer, to an executive director. And now, she is working on her doctorate in acupuncture, which will allow her the opportunity to be an autonomous, self-sufficient practitioner focusing on what she believes in. Her message for you is: reach your goals. And then look around you and see where else you want to go. Never settle. Live within your means. Save your money because you never know when the rain is going to come. And make sure you get your health in order. Your health is your true wealth.

    Episode Highlights

05:07 - I had to make a decision, and after some soul searching, I had to separate from that company. And I kind of prepared myself back in March for the transition. I started looking into some things, taking some courses, doing some research.

16:17 - It felt so good, so natural to take back my time and energy that I was spending as an executive director, to take back that energy and invest it in me, figuring out how could I be an asset and provide a service.

33:26 - The only thing that had sustained me through my transition was always working unto the Lord. I never work unto people. I do not do things for recognition from a person. Only the Most High knows your sacrifice.

48:31 - One of the things that allowed me to be able to make that decision was that when I changed my salary, I never changed my living. I always kept my living expenses at the same level as when I was making $37,000 a year.

58:20 - Brainstorming. What is a business manager?

  • Don’t Let the Old Woman In
    Aug 26 2021

This episode is about not letting us become old and grumpy women because nothing in our lives happened the way we planned. Talethea gives some guidelines on how to actively fight not to let that old, grumpy woman in. It is something that you have to do on purpose, every day for the rest of your life. The list of the things you need to do is quite long. It goes from getting a life coach, changing your mindset, becoming the woman that you want to be before you get the results, to looking for closure and acting on the things you see that have to be fixed. Listen to this episode, get yourself a plan, share your thoughts, and do not let that old woman in.

    Episode Highlights

10:34 – You need to be your own life coach, so you can get as far as you want to.

17:06 – Do it imperfectly. Do not sit around waiting to have all the answers and everything together to go after whatever you are trying to do.

23:46 – Fight to keep your joy, go after your self-care on purpose, and start with your therapy. And keep in mind that life can win if you let it.

37:15 – Do what you need to do to stay energized and to not lose heart. You do not have to be in your forties to be an old woman. Pray, read the Bible, do what it says, even if you are not a Christian. The whole book talks about taking care of yourself, loving others, and respecting laws.

39:08 – Brainstorm It. What is a business manager? Should someone who is building a personal brand have a business manager? What do you think about that?

  • Why Women Over Forty
    Aug 19 2021

In this episode, Talethea reminds us why this podcast celebrates women over forty. It is because there are not so many of them that stand out. And yet, they are so awesome. There is truly magic in talking to the women in their 50s, 60s, 70s, who have learned to get over their mess. Talethea recalls the time when she realized that she is not satisfied with what she had accomplished. She reflects on some episodes and guests and reminds us that we can all be like them, living our dream and not complaining about the things that we are dealing with. She gives us some examples of women who decided to do what they love. Listen to this episode and be encouraged to do the same.

    Episode Highlights

04:00 – The images of women that stand out are of those that are younger and thinner. I feel like there is a pushback against that. You do not turn and see many women over forty that are killing it. Over forty, who are women of color, entrepreneurs.

13:32 – Spend some time paying attention to what you are saying to yourself, your friends, your spouse, your kids. Ask yourself where is that coming from.

26:20 – So many of us focused on the life that we want to build for ourselves that we stopped living.

43:24 – I would like to encourage you all to look at where you are and appreciate it based on your life and where you have come from. And build from there.

46:16 – I’d like to introduce a new segment to the Chapter Next Podcast called Let’s Brainstorm It. I want us to be able to get solutions from the podcast community.
