    Pain is part of life; extra suffering is often a story we add. The first sentence is the fact—boring, security-camera neutral. The second sentence is our swift conclusion: “This means I’m behind…they don’t respect me…I always mess this up.” That add-on thought spikes emotion and narrows options.
