• Why the Relentless Cannot Be Defeated with David Spisak
    Aug 24 2021

My guest today is the epitome of humiliation and intelligence. He's no stranger to starting multiple million dollar businesses, running empires inside and outside of the home, and doing it all with grace, empathy, and class.

    He's:

    • President and CEO of Disruptive Growth Solutions
    • Former President of ReverseRisk, running a $2.3 billion revenue unit for them with about 4000 employees
    • Winery partner to 5 star restaurants
    • Former Board of Directors for the 49ers
    • Proud Dad four times over

    & so. much, more.

He's  very familiar with what it takes to work hard, accomplish what you set out to do, and to enjoy the journey along the way because "the relentless cannot be defeated."

Without further ado, here is David Spisak.

    Aug 10 2021

I have a treat for you. Like a biiiiig treat. Usually, you listen to me go on and on about my own thoughts and feelings, but I decided that it might be nice to introduce you to some insanely amazing people that I admire, worship in some way, or find totally refreshing.  And today, I’m sharing a very, very special guest with you.

His national media spans over 25 years and includes

    • starring in three primetime hit TV shows,
    • hundreds of national and international media appearances,
    • multiple best-selling books,
    • podcasts
    • countless sold-out speaking engagements.

He’s been interviewed by some legends like Oprah, Barbara Walters, Dr. Phil, and more.

He’s reunited over 40,000 families through his hit show, “The Locator”

Now, he’s consulting and helping others who have their own important work and message to get out to the world by creating rich content, leveraging your media assets and relationships and helping clients get their content distributed successfully.

And on top of that, he’s also a husband to his high school sweet heart of thirty years, and a father to 8.

I was so humbled by our conversation, as Troy dives deep into why vulnerability is the key to fulfillment, why "fake it until you make it is a lie," and what his favorite "f" word is. Please welcome, my super human guest, Troy Dunn.

  • How to Live Out Your Purpose
    Jul 19 2021

Impacters are committed to purpose and bettering themselves. If you want to reach total fulfillment through all areas of your life you need to commit to purpose. Let’s roll.

If you aren’t familiar with what I’m talking about, refer to last week’s episode on 5 ways to make a positive impact.

But for those of us ready to get right into it, here it is.

The most important topic that you’ll ever dissect: is purpose. And that doesn't mean doing one thing over and over for the rest of your life. It means being ready to adapt and adapt to the world around you and doin whatever it takes to be impactful. Your purpose can come in different assignments. It’s normal and expected to show up in many different forms. The average graduate today will have 8-14 different careers. CAREERS. Not jobs. careers. That’s because adaptability is so crucial. We don’t know where the world is going to be, so we must learn how to adapt at light speed.

And besides being adaptable, we have to learn to aim. As in, figure out where you want to go and be laser fixated on reaching that target.

You need to aim with intention. If you don’t aim, you’ll shoot from the hip and whatever your mission is, whatever you're trying to do will fall flat and never land.

And on top of that, without aiming with intention and strength, your target will move fluidly. How frustrating is that, when you’re aiming at something, and the target keeps moving? Targets move because the intention isn’t set from within. If you don’t set the target, and aim with intention, you will never land any shots. Aim with intention and the stronger that your intention is, the greater the outcome for landing that shot.

And If you’re lost and wondering what your purpose is, or what your intention is, You need to use your inner vision and intuition. Where is the aim coming from? What scope are you using to aim down the barrel of your life? What target are you trying to hit? And if you can’t see it, it’s because you’re lacking that inner vision to see the target through.

You have to be willing to set, scope, and aim at your intention, and that’s the way that you’ll reach the target of your purpose.

And to cap it off, you have to be willing and decide to pull the trigger. It's not enough to pull from within and aim, you have to be willing to pull the trigger when opportunity strikes.

Alright so building more off of that, and building off of our discussion last week on impact, we can really get to the bottom of what it means to have a purpose.

We spoke last week about how impacters actually believe they have a purpose, whereas loathers, takers, and tolerators, aren’t convinced such a thing exists. Impacters don’t even question this, and to take it a step beyond expectations, they are committed to the pursuit of achieving impact by constantly sharpening their skills, becoming a stronger, better, and sharper person than they were yesterday, and aren’t fulfilled until their clock runs out.

And to dive even further into the deep end of this crucial quality, I want to discuss a few ways in which impacts hone in on the commitment to purpose and what it takes to actually become impactful.

  • 5 Ways to Make a Positive Impact
    Jul 5 2021

There are 4 different kinds of people.

There’s the loathers. These people loath everything. The weather is always slightly off. The news is always the forefront of their mind and they’re upset about headline, after headline, after headline, and can’t wait to tell anyone and everyone about it physically and digitally. They seem to find the worst in every situation and harp on the incredible reasons why something is just so, so wrong. Their brows are always furrowed, they have an open mouth and closed ears, and they harp on the worst of things.

And then there’s the tolerators. And you guessed it, these people tolerate just about everything. They tolerate the weather, they tolerate their job, they tolerate the news, they tolerate their circumstances and they thrive under a shell of comfort. They generally have thick skin, they don’t ask or complain much, they just keep trekking along.

Then there's the takers. Ya’ll know these people. These are the ones that call you up to only talk about themselves while you’re in the middle of of starting your day, you have a meeting in 2 minutes, and they hang up the phone without asking, “how you’re doing?” These people are constantly searching for things that fill them. They are not interested in the needs of others, they are only interested in their needs.

And then there’s the impacters. These are the people who walk into a room and everyone has to stop and stare. They show up ready to rock and roll day in and day out. They find beauty in every type of weather. They find inspiration in a bird’s chirp and not a news headline. They’re fascinated by solutions and not problems. They find motivation through authors, thought leaders, podcasters, and they even show up as one. Their mouths are mostly shut and their ears are wide open. Their eyes are looking up instead of down. They’re constantly in motion and always sharpening their skills. And most importantly, these are the people who are uncomfortable being comfortable and they want to leave a lasting impression on this world, and ultimately, leave it better than when they enter it. These are the people we know by one name. Jesus. Oprah. Disney. Beyoncé. Jay-z. You know them, and they’ve created a legacy and a movement that lives on bigger than them.

The impacters are the type of people who love what they do, who they do it with, and relish in the art of how they do it. And this group of people are known to be the ones who make the greatest positive impact on our world today.

And what is so fascinating to me, is that each of these groups is full of different classes, races, backgrounds, flavors,  likes, dislikes, and full of different strokes for different folks. But the thread of how they look at life is exactly the same.

History shows us that the people who make the greatest impact on our world are not the ones who were privileged, advantaged, or “special” by any means. A lot of impacters come from broken homes, uncomfortable finances, lack of mentors, crushing circumstances, and limited capabilities, but they have all found ways to get back up and lunge into what they were born to do. And ultimately, they transform their lives and the lives of everyone around them.

After my research and have studying these influential impacters I have found 5 core elements to be true amongst all of them. If you want to make an impact and leave this Earth greater than how you found it, this episode is for you. Let's roll.

    xo,
    Lauren

  • How to Change Limiting Beliefs
    Jun 28 2021

The Encarta dictionary defines a “belief” as the “acceptance by the mind that something is true or real, often underpinned by an emotional or spiritual sense of certainty.” They are literally the lens that you see the world through.

A limiting belief,” is a conscious or subconscious theory that you tell yourself in order to meet what is true to you.

With emphasis on, "in order to meet what is true to you.”

This means that limiting beliefs derive from context. Your physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental state will form your beliefs. They are multi-dimensional, and can be looked at like a super highway of interconnected variables shaping who you are, and most importantly, the reality that you live in.

They're the playbook of rules that we each design for ourselves on what life is, how the game is played, and how we can “win.”

They’re the way that we process information, how we make sense of things, and how we decide to use that information to work for or against us.

These beliefs are powerful, yet so, so dangerous.

Why? Because they limit your ability to live at your highest potential.

They literally limit the amount of actions, thoughts, or energy that you spend on something through a scarcity lens (versus an abundant one).

But the most threatening part about limiting beliefs, is that there is no external jury that can overrule them. Like I mentioned before, limiting beliefs can only be defined by you (the individual) who is doing the limiting. And in that same regard, that means that the only person that can overrule them, is also you.

If limiting beliefs are not challenged, they define who you are.

Let's dive into what a limiting belief is, how to identify them, and how to cure these mental viruses from your brain for good.

  • What To Do When You're Feeling Overwhelmed
    Jun 14 2021

Life can be really, really awesome. We know this, because we’ve experienced it, and get to experience this over and over again.

Like the first date of that relationship we will never, ever forget.

The day the phone rang and it was the job offer you always wanted.

The moment you completed that really, really hard task that you didn’t want to do, but you’re so proud of yourself for doing. But there’s times where life gets really, really hard.

So hard, to the point where it feels like a lot to just get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other.

Because that requires dealing with something that, right now, seems really really hard to do.

And sometimes, this feeling of being overwhelmed, could last days, weeks, months, even years, and could be a combination of a few variables in our life, or maybe it's just one.

But regardless of the formula, feeling overwhelmed happens to everyone at some point or another.

And without being able to process what is happening, and continuing to just pile on more and more onto our plate and ignore the signs of overwhelm, we ultimately burnout, and see the quality of our lives slipping away.

Perhaps this overwhelm is because you’re constantly battling anxiety, depression, or some other mental illness.

Maybe it's from your heart being broken.

Maybe you’ve gone through a trauma, recently, or in the past, and it still feels fresh as ever.

Or maybe you have no idea why you feel this way, and you’re constantly probing yourself for answers so you can figure out how to combat this overwhelm?

Whatever the case is, I can tell you this. It’s going to be ok.

Everyone goes through tough times and it doesn’t make you any less capable, lovable, or worthy. You’re human, and unfortunately, being a human means that we are going to experience some ebbs and flows, some highs and lows, and this journey of life that we are on is going to get really messy at times.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, I want to give you a strategy that instantly improves my mood and helps me combat overwhelm, helps me get one foot in front of the other so that I can walk out of this hard time and into my highest potential.

    Let's dive in.

  • 3 Reasons Why You Need the Diamond Rule
    Jun 7 2021

For those of you who have been living under a super sweet rock, the golden rule simply states, “Treat people the way you want to be treated.”

It has the best of intentions. It says “hey, you like to be treated with empathy, respect, and compassion, right? Cool, then treat everyone that way too, and then we can all dance into the sunset and live our best lives.”

The idea is that we will eradicate negativity, jealousy, envy, any sort of negativity, because we are treating people with the respect that we hope others will treat us with in return.

But there are a few key things that are wrong with this rule.

It comes from a self-centered outlook.

It ASSUMES that everyone wants to be treated like you.

It ASSUMES that everyone wants what you want.

It ASSUMES that everyone has the same needs, desires, and lacking the same things, so we might as well all treat each other the exact same way.

    It neglects context.

If I were to treat every single person the way I want to be treated, I would be lacking the crucial context and figuring out what it is that THEY INDIVIDUALLY NEED to feel loved.

For example. Have you ever received a gift from someone that clearly they loved, but you aren’t totally pumped about?

Like a particular band t-shirt, that you know for a fact is the giver’s favorite band, but you could barely name a song or band member?

Have you ever been hugged by someone, when you really didn’t want a hug, because you are not really an affectionate kind of person?

Or perhaps you’ve given a gift, and someone returned it, and you thought wow, what a jerk? Instead of, oh.. Maybe that didn’t resonate with them… and perhaps I should try harder to figure out what they really do like?

This is not the giver’s fault. This isn’t your fault. It’s the golden rule’s fault. And that is because the golden rule doesn’t require us to figure out and ask the question, “what is something that I can do to make this individual person feel loved and appreciated?”

It assumes we automatically understand someone.

And that is the diamond rule.

The diamond rule, that I have curated to shift the mindset behind the golden rule, states this: “TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY THEY WANT TO BE TREATED.”

Why? Because if everyone took the time to really dig into each person, and find out what is unique to them, and what their needs are, and what their likes are, we can turn everything around. And I mean everything.

Politics, religion, gender inequalities, gay, straight, you name it. We wouldn't be so divided.

Let's dive into how we can treat each other so that we can actually all get the support that we need.

    xo,
    Lauren

Burnout does not discriminate. It captures victims of all shapes, sizes, cultures, and backgrounds, and anyone is fair game.

But burnout has a sweet, special soft spot for moms.

Burnout loves moms. It loves moms so much, that it captures them quickly and spreads like a virus without a vaccine.

But the one thing that does combat burnout: passion.

Burnout's kryptonite is passion coming through, full force, into a mom's life, and giving her the reasons, resources, and tools needed to combat it day in, and day out.
