Long time Lord of the Rings (LotR) Fan and sex educator, Nat Higgins, got the once in a lifetime chance of talking about the Men (and Hobbits and Elves and Dwarves) of Middle Earth with none other than The Obscure Lord of the Rings Facts Guy himself, Don Marshall.

They discuss not only the different forms of healthy masculinity the members of the fellowship display, but also Tolkien as a writer, and the impact that having these kinds of role models can have on a young man coming into his own manhood. Or anyone really, since Tolkien had a way of writing characters that anyone could see themself represented in.

Don Marshall has written two books, J.R.R. Tolkien: The Father of Modern Fantasy and the forthcoming Facts of the Fellowship: 99 Obscure Lord of the Rings Facts from Tolkien’s Middle-earth.
