  • From the Big House to the Cozy Corner with Coni J. Mackey
    Jul 13 2026
What do you do when you realize you have been living for everyone else — and not for yourself? Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Coni J. Mackey, founder of Silver Hair Wisdom and one of Janet's longtime friends and collaborators. Coni shares her deeply personal journey of going from 2,000 square feet to living in a space just over 600 square feet — and what she discovered along the way about identity, freedom, and what it truly means to let go. This is not just a story about downsizing. It is a story about coming home to yourself. In this conversation you will learn: Why Coni kept a big house for decades — and the moment she realized nobody was coming to fill it. How losing her eyesight in one eye became the turning point that changed everything and led her to finally ask for help. What it felt like to drive cross-country from Las Vegas to Portland, Oregon at 67 years old — alone — with her life fitting in a car. The labeling system that saved her sanity during multiple moves and how knowing what is in every box changed everything. Why downsizing is one of the most emotionally difficult things a person can go through — and why you have to be ready before you begin. The moment Coni moved into 614 square feet and realized she was finally free. What it means to stop performing a life and start living one. Organizing with Janet: Janet worked with a mother and daughter who both downsized to combine their homes so the daughter could become her mother's caregiver. After assessing both spaces, Janet helped them create a shared plan — what would fit, what needed to be released, and how to make the new space feel like home for both of them. When two lives come together in one space, intentionality is everything. Taylor's Tip Time: Keys to downsizing — plan the space, use horizontal surfaces like shelving for extra storage, choose multifunctional furniture, use back of door and under-sink organizers to maximize every inch, and purge seasonally because downsizing is rarely a one-time event. TossItTuesday: Time to donate those books stacked in corners and under tables. Consider your local Little Free Library, community book programs, or prison literacy initiatives — let your books be read again. Quote of the week: "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one." — Mark Twain Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. • Master Your Day: Proven Strategies to Own Your Schedule and Beat Overwhelm
    Jul 6 2026
Do you ever feel like your day is running you instead of the other way around? This solo episode is your reset. Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, shares the ten strategies she personally uses to master her day — and they work whether you are just starting your career, a seasoned professional, or retired. No matter where you are, a plan and the right tools can change everything. In this episode Janet covers: Strategy 1: Start the night before. Just 15 minutes of pre-planning can save you an hour or more the next day — and dramatically reduce your morning overwhelm. Strategy 2: Pack your bag the night before. Know exactly what you need before your feet hit the floor. Strategy 3: Lay out your clothes and shoes the night before. Eliminate morning decisions before they drain your energy. Strategy 4: Confirm your appointments. One phone call can save you an entire wasted trip across town. Strategy 5: Check your schedule before you say yes. Look at the day before and the day after — not just the day of. Strategy 6: Double the time you think tasks will take. Give yourself enough room to finish without the stress of running over. Strategy 7: Meal prep. It saves time, supports your health, and saves money — even a simple meat and sides prep makes the whole week easier. Strategy 8: Keep all appointments on one calendar — personal, professional, caregiving, all of it in one place. Strategy 9: Color code your schedule. At a glance you will know exactly where your energy is going and what is missing. Strategy 10: Make time for yourself. Janet's personal time is yellow on her calendar. What color is yours? Organizing with Janet: A client was overwhelmed by a large organizing project and kept stalling because she was trying to do everything at once. Janet helped her create a project timeline with specific dates and dedicated time blocks for each area. With a timeline and a focus on one space at a time, frustration turned into forward movement. Taylor's Tip Time: Plan the night before — lay out clothes, put shoes by the door, know where your keys are, have your gym bag ready, and review your schedule. Just 15 minutes reduces the manic morning rush completely. TossItTuesday: Time to toss the old calendars and planners you have been holding onto for years. The pretty pictures are not worth the drawer space. Let them go. Quote of the week: "You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it." — Charles Buxton Clear the Clutter.
