  • Mechanochemistry ~ Ancient Skills Give Rise to Cutting-Edge Sustainable Manufacturing Techniques
    Apr 24 2024

Think about all the things you use in your daily life. Shampoo, clothes, furniture, phone, computer...

All of these things have their beginnings in manufacturing facilities where various chemicals are mixed together, their molecules interacting in various ways to get to the next material along the manufacturing journey.

The methods use to combine those chemicals have a tremendous amount to do with how sustainable any of our things can truly be.

In this episode, we look at Mechanochemistry, an suite of chemical processing methods that have their roots in our ancient past, but which are being investigated anew for their potential to make those manufacturing systems cleaner, safer, and more efficient.

My guests are Dr. Wilfried Braje, a research fellow with AbbVie, and Dr. Isaiah Speight, an assistant professor of chemistry at William & Mary.

  • Using AI & Machine Learning to Accelerate Sustainable Innovation
    Apr 16 2024

If we're going to meet the demands of sustainability and climate change in the time needed, scientific advancements will have to happen faster than traditional methods of discovery can often make possible.

Hear how researchers are trying to use the combined powers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning to help accelerate those discoveries.

My guest is Dr. Alexei Lapkin, Professor of Sustainable Reaction Engineering at the University of Cambridge.

  • How Green Chemistry Can Help Advance Environmental Justice
    Apr 10 2024

Environmental Justice has to do, in part, with people who are regularly and unfairly exposed to the harmful waste streams and byproducts of our industrial economy.

In this episode of Green Chem Essential, a look at how green chemistry can help these people by changing how industry does things.

I'm James Rea, and my guest is Sederra Ross of the American Chemical Society's Green Chemistry Institute. https://www.acs.org/greenchemistry.html
