  • Episode 225: Cell Salts & Facial Analysis with Miran Farah
    Oct 29 2026
Can the appearance of your face offer clues about which tissue salts a homeopath might consider? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with Miran Farah about cell salts and her approach to facial analysis. Miran introduces the 12 traditional tissue salts associated with the work of Wilhelm Heinrich Schüßler and explains how she uses facial features as part of her homeopathic method. What Are Cell Salts? Also known as tissue salts, these preparations are used in a traditional homeopathic system based on 12 mineral salts. Miran discusses their commonly used 6X and 12X potencies and explains how she distinguishes between individual salts. Tissue salts are highly diluted preparations, not the same as ordinary mineral supplements or electrolyte replacement. Claims that they correct mineral deficiencies or improve the body's ability to absorb vitamins have not been established by good clinical evidence. Facial Analysis and Tissue Salts A central theme of the conversation is Miran's method of looking at visible facial features when considering particular tissue salts. She discusses traditional associations involving: Natrum Muriaticum (Nat Mur): dry skin and other facial features.Silica: facial lines, wrinkles, hair and nails.Calcarea Fluorica (Calc Fluor): skin elasticity and certain facial markings.Ferrum Phosphoricum (Ferrum Phos): features Miran associates with this salt in her facial analysis system.Kali Muriaticum (Kali Mur) and Magnesia phosphorica (Mag Phos): different patterns of facial redness. These are associations within Miran's homeopathic approach, not validated diagnostic signs. Facial analysis is not an established medical method for identifying mineral deficiencies or diagnosing health conditions. How Does Facial Analysis Work? Miran explains why she prefers clear photographs taken in natural light, without makeup or moisturiser, so she can examine facial features more closely. She describes using a checklist to consider several features together rather than relying on one sign alone. She also discusses reviewing photographs at follow-up appointments and adjusting her selections according to her observations. Individualized Tissue Salt Selection The conversation explores individual tissue salts and combination products such as Bioplasma, which contains a combination of traditional tissue salts. Miran explains how she approaches selecting salts and discusses the changes in energy, sleep, eating habits and skin appearance that she says some clients report. These are her clinical observations and do not establish that tissue salts caused the reported changes. Cell salts have not been established as treatments for disease, immune problems, skin ageing or other health conditions. The episode also touches on use across different age groups, including pregnancy. Product formulations vary, so anyone considering complementary products during pregnancy should discuss them with a qualified maternity professional. Key Takeaways Learn about the 12 traditional tissue salts.Explore Miran Farah's approach to facial analysis.Understand the traditional associations she makes between facial features and particular salts.Discover how photographs, checklists and follow-up appointments fit into her method.Understand the difference between homeopathic tissue salts and conventional mineral supplements.Remember that facial analysis is not a validated diagnostic tool and should not replace medical assessment or evidence-based treatment. • Episode 224: Homeopathy for Chronic Sinusitis, Seasonal Allergies, and Sinus Pain with Danielle Durie
    Oct 22 2026
Why do some sinus problems keep coming back, and what details help a homeopath distinguish between different remedy pictures? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with Danielle Durie about recurring sinus problems, congestion, mucus, seasonal allergies and sinus pain. They explore the difference between short term and longer lasting symptoms, what homeopaths look for during a consultation and the traditional materia medica pictures of remedies including Kali bichromicum and Pulsatilla. Why Do Sinus Symptoms Keep Coming Back? Danielle explains that people may experience sinus symptoms for many different reasons. Some may notice problems during seasonal allergy periods, while others experience lingering congestion after a cold or have recurring symptoms throughout the year. The conversation looks at both symptoms happening right now and longer standing patterns that repeatedly return. Persistent or recurring sinus symptoms can have several causes and may require medical assessment, particularly when they are severe or affecting everyday life. Looking at the Individual Symptoms One of the main themes of the episode is individualized prescribing. Danielle explains that a homeopath may ask very detailed questions about: Where the sinus pain is locatedThe colour and consistency of mucusWhether symptoms affect the eyes, nose, ears or throatWhat time of day symptoms are worseWhether warmth or cold helpsWhether symptoms change indoors or outdoorsWhat makes the person feel better or worse The aim within traditional homeopathy is to match the complete symptom picture rather than choose one remedy simply because someone has sinusitis. Kali Bichromicum and Sinus Pain A major part of the conversation focuses on Kali bichromicum, often shortened to Kali bich. Danielle describes two memorable characteristics from traditional homeopathic materia medica. The first is intense, localized sinus pain where someone may be able to point directly to the painful spot around the bridge of the nose, eyebrows or cheekbones. The second is thick, stringy or ropey mucus that may be yellow or yellow-green and difficult to clear. These are traditional homeopathic associations. Homeopathy has not been established as an effective treatment for chronic sinusitis or allergic rhinitis. Kali Bichromicum or Pulsatilla? Danielle also compares Kali bichromicum with Pulsatilla. Both traditional remedy pictures may include yellow or yellow-green mucus, but Danielle describes Pulsatilla discharge as more changeable and free-flowing. She also looks at the person's wider symptom pattern, including mood and what makes them feel better or worse. This comparison demonstrates why materia medica study involves much more than matching one remedy to one condition. A Chronic Sinusitis Case Danielle shares a case involving a woman who had experienced recurring sinus infections every few months. During a flare, she developed significant pain beneath the eyes and around the eyebrows, jaw and gums, together with stringy yellow mucus. Danielle explains why these characteristics led her to Kali bichromicum and describes the improvement the client later reported. The client also reported that her recurring sinus problems had not returned when Danielle heard from her about a year later. This is an individual case experience and does not establish that the homeopathic treatment caused the improvement. A Lingering Sinus Problem A second case involves a young woman whose cold and sinus symptoms had continued for several months. Her symptoms included pressure around the bridge of the nose and eyes, congestion and green mucus. Again, Danielle explains why the particular location and character of the pain led her to consider Kali bichromicum. She later reported improvement in the sinus pain and other symptoms. Case reports cannot demonstrate treatment effectiveness, and persistent symptoms should receive appropriate medical assessment. Acute and Chronic Symptoms Mary and Danielle also discuss an important distinction between an immediate illness and a health problem that keeps returning. They explain why someone may have an acute flare within a much longer standing problem and why the wider history can become important when symptoms repeatedly return. Medical treatment, including antibiotics when clinically indicated, can be important for some sinus infections. Allergy medicines can also provide effective symptom relief. Homeopathy should not replace appropriate medical care. Key Takeaways Sinus problems can have many different causes.Recurring symptoms deserve closer investigation.Homeopathic prescribing traditionally considers the complete symptom picture.Kali bichromicum is associated with localized sinus pain and thick, stringy mucus.Pulsatilla has a different traditional symptom pattern.Individual cases do not prove that a remedy caused improvement.Persistent or severe sinus symptoms need appropriate medical assessment.Homeopathy ...

  • Episode 223: The Mind Body Connection in Homeopathy with Havva Said
    Oct 15 2026
How much can our emotional wellbeing influence the way we experience physical symptoms? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with Havva Said about the connection between emotional stress and physical wellbeing and how this influences the way Havva approaches her work as a homeopath. They explore stress, past experiences, the nervous system, physical symptoms and the importance of listening to the whole person rather than focusing on one complaint in isolation. Havva's Own Experience Havva begins by sharing her personal experience with a severely painful frozen shoulder. She tried massage, acupuncture and cupping before eventually speaking with a homeopath. What surprised her was that the consultation did not focus only on her shoulder. Her homeopath also asked what was happening in her life emotionally. Havva describes being prescribed Sepia based on the wider picture and later experiencing a significant improvement in her shoulder. She also felt more able to make changes in her life that she had previously been avoiding. This was Havva's personal experience and does not establish that Sepia caused the improvement. Frozen shoulder can have several causes and often benefits from appropriate medical assessment and physical rehabilitation. Understanding the Mind Body Connection The conversation then explores the relationship between prolonged emotional stress and physical wellbeing. Havva discusses how difficult experiences can continue to influence the way we react when something reminds us of the past. Stress can have genuine physical effects. It can influence sleep, muscle tension, pain perception, digestion, autonomic arousal and general wellbeing. However, this does not mean that most physical illnesses are caused by emotional problems. Physical symptoms can have many biological, environmental and psychological influences. Stress and the Nervous System Havva discusses the body's fight or flight response and what may happen when someone feels under prolonged pressure. Short-term stress responses are a normal part of human physiology. When stress becomes prolonged, however, it can affect sleep, mood, concentration and physical wellbeing. Mary and Havva explore why asking about someone's wider circumstances may therefore provide useful information alongside their physical symptoms. Looking Beyond the Physical Complaint One of the main themes of the episode is Havva's approach to case taking. Rather than asking only, "Where does it hurt?" she wants to understand what else is happening in the person's life. This may include relationships, major changes, difficult experiences, worries, sleep and emotional wellbeing. Havva emphasizes that these conversations need to happen at the client's own pace. Some people are ready to discuss difficult experiences immediately, while others need time to develop trust. A Case from Havva's Practice Havva also shares a case involving a woman who had experienced a blocked nose for around two years, followed by recurring respiratory symptoms, a persistent cough, exhaustion and asthma-like symptoms. During the consultation, the woman also described significant emotional strain connected with her home situation. Havva explains why she selected Emerald within her homeopathic framework and describes improvements the client later reported. This is an individual case report and cannot establish that the homeopathic remedy caused those changes. Persistent cough, recurrent chest infections, asthma symptoms or feeling short of breath require appropriate medical assessment. Difficulty breathing or severe breathlessness can require urgent medical attention. Listening and Building Trust Another important part of the discussion is the relationship between practitioner and client. Havva describes homeopathic consultations as a partnership. She believes people need to feel heard and comfortable before discussing sensitive experiences. Sometimes the physical complaint is the starting point, with other aspects of the person's health and life becoming clearer over time. Physical and Emotional Health Together The episode ultimately encourages listeners to think about health more broadly. Our minds and bodies are not completely separate. Stress and emotional wellbeing can affect how we feel physically, while pain and illness can also strongly affect mood, relationships and quality of life. Understanding that relationship can be valuable without assuming that every illness has an emotional cause. Key Takeaways Emotional and physical wellbeing can influence each other.Prolonged stress can affect sleep, pain, mood and physical wellbeing.Physical symptoms should not automatically be attributed to emotional stress.Understanding someone's wider life circumstances can add useful context.Sensitive conversations should happen at the person's own pace.Individual case experiences do not prove that a treatment caused improvement.Persistent breathing or respiratory symptoms ...
