Fred breaks down the hands-on art of mount making from shaping brass and camouflaging mounts to managing high-stakes deadlines and working with fragile objects. He also shares stories from iconic Met projects and the philosophy that has guided his decades-long career in this rarely seen but essential museum craft.

    Bio:

    Fred Sager is an accomplished art conservator with a long career at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he began in 1980 and now serves as Managing Conservation Preparator in Objects Conservation. Trained in drawing, sculpture, and printmaking at Fredonia State University, he previously worked in gallery and printmaking studios in Santa Fe and New York City. At the Met, his work has included preparing architectural elements for period rooms, restoring historic chimneypieces, and contributing to the conservation of the Renaissance Gubbio Studiolo. He has presented internationally innovative conservation methods, including talks at The Getty Museum and the Royal College of London.
