For the second episode of the Loritasium podcast, we welcome Stefania, scientist and host of the PhD Grind Podcast.
Through her podcast, Stefania has a simple goal: she wants to help people who are struggling during or after their PhD by sharing honest experiences from interviewees who have been there. On her podcast, they talk about navigating lab cultures, changing countries, dealing with unemployment and transitioning to industry. She has shared these stories across more than 20 episodes.
In this episode, Stefania tells us how a Master’s thesis internship at UNIL turned into a new job as a research assistant in a lab thanks to networking, and how having her own project during that time convinced her that she was a good candidate to pursue a PhD. We also talk about the creation of the podcast, the impact it has had on her, the topics that have resonated most with her listeners, the repercussion of isolation during a PhD and what she plans to do now that she has obtained her PhD and left the university.
