THE MUMMY: BOOK OF THE DEAD Is Official Sequel Title

The fourth Mummy film is officially titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning. Per THR, John Hannah (Evelyn’s brother Jonathan) is back too. It’s directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by David Coggeshall. Deadline reports it will open October 15, 2027, not May 19, 2028 as first reported. Fraser has said this is the story he always wanted to make. The article notes that the sequels were less loved than the original and that Weisz skipped the third film. THE BEEKEEPER 2 Trailer Pits Jason Statham Against Other Beekeepers

The first trailer shows Jason Statham’s Adam Clay fighting his own Beekeeper organization after it goes rogue and tries to take over the government. It includes a blowtorch-in-the-mouth moment. Pom Klementieff, Jeremy Irons, and Emmy Raver-Lampman (as Agent Verona Parker) also star. Timo Tjahjanto directs, and it opens in theaters January 15, 2027. WHALEFALL Review: You Aren’t Prepared (Complimentary)

Nerdist’s review praises Whalefall as a genre-defying film that mixes existential meditation, body horror, camp, and father-son drama. Austin Abrams plays Jay Gardiner, who has an hour to escape a whale’s stomach while searching for his father’s remains. The reviewer singles out his performance, including a friendship with a bioluminescent jellyfish. Josh Brolin plays his difficult father in flashbacks. The review also praises the underwater cinematography and the well-timed humor, and it likes that the film doesn’t tie up the father-son story neatly. The reviewer calls it absurdist cinema and admits not fully knowing what to make of it, but enjoyed every minute. It opens October 16.

Ben Affleck Calls JUSTICE LEAGUE His Career Low Point

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Affleck said the 2017 Justice League experience was “so, so negative,” citing his personal circumstances, the tragedy during production, and the studio being at odds with its filmmaker. Nerdist recaps how Warner Bros. replaced Zack Snyder with Joss Whedon after the death of Snyder’s daughter. It argues the film killed the DCEU’s momentum, ended Affleck’s solo Batman plans, and eventually Whedon’s career. It also suggests the production would make a fascinating book.

New STAR TREK Film Won’t Use Legacy Characters or Kelvin Universe

Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein told Empire their Star Trek film will have “no legacy characters, nobody that you’ve met before.” It won’t be set in the Kelvin timeline either, and will take place a bit further into the future. Nerdist notes it would be the first Trek film without ties to previous cast members. The author hopes the only legacy element is a starship called Enterprise. TV Trek is winding down, with the remaining Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy episodes arriving next year and no new shows greenlit.

VISIONQUEST Creator Wants to Do Fan-Fave YOUNG AVENGERS Story

VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas told ScreenRant he’d love to adapt Avengers: The Children’s Crusade (2010), in which Wiccan and Speed search for their mother Wanda, who is found mind-controlled by Doctor Doom, ending in redemption and a reunion with Vision. He said it’s up to Marvel and nothing is in the works, but he’d want the whole family included, perhaps even Ultron. The author thinks Doom likely won’t be part of it because of Doomsday and Secret Wars. They argue the story would deliver both a long-awaited Young Avengers project and a happy ending for Wanda and Vision.

We May Know the Next 5 DCU Films Post MAN OF TOMORROW

A Deadline report on the post-Skydance-merger slate suggests five DC Studios films are being fast-tracked: Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, Swamp Thing, and Savage Hunters (a Bane and Deathstroke film). This is a shift from Gunn’s 2023 lineup of lesser-known properties, many of which were scrapped (Waller, Paradise Lost, The Authority, Booster Gold). Nerdist sees it as a safe move given superhero fatigue. It calls the Bane/Deathstroke film the biggest wild card and expects Swamp Thing to be a lower-budget horror film like Clayface.
