The Phoenix Mercury are playing with pride to close the 2026 season, evidenced by their come-from-behind victory over the Dallas Wings on Tuesday. PHNX Mercury is reacting to that victory as Gil, Stephen and Kevin are joined by Carlan Gay, USA Sports’ WNBA play-by-play announcer who was on the call for the last-second thriller.

With Carlan in studio, they also talk about the Mercury’s season as a whole before looking ahead to Thursday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces, as he’ll be on the call once again. And while the Mercury won’t be in the postseason this year, they discuss what he expects from the eight-team field.

While they have long been eliminated from playoff contention, the Phoenix Mercury have won two straight games as the 2026 season comes to a close. Their latest victory — a 94-91 win over the Portland Fire — is yet another encouraging step when looking for silver linings this season.

Undrafred rookie guard Shay Ciezki is looking like a crown jewel for the franchise, as she turned in another career performance with 22 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Even more impressive is that she scored 17 of her 22 points in the third frame and did all of her work in 21 minutes before fouling out.

The Phoenix Mercury are well-represented with Team USA in the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup, in Berlin. Though Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson withdrew, there are still multiple other pieces in place, with experience upholding the Gold Medal standard of the Senior Women’s Basketball team.

Though they do have seven new players, and nine first time world cup players, they’re counter-balanced with players the likes of Kahleah Copper around.
