• 18. Menopause in the workplace with Bev Thorogood
    Dec 16 2020

Menopausal women are demographically, the fastest growing group of workers in the UK, and they’re often at the height of their career when perimenopause hits them.

Despite it being a natural life process for women, the menopause, and how it can affect you at work, is rarely discussed despite the  potential consequences for both employees and employers.

The majority of women don’t feel comfortable talking about their symptoms with their managers but by talking about it openly, raising awareness and putting the right support in place, perhaps we can get to a point where menopause is no longer an issue in the workplace at all!

This is where today’s guest can really help!

Owner and founder of Floresco Training and Coaching, Bev Thorogood offers Menopause Awareness Training in the workplace, providing managers and colleagues with the knowledge and skills to talk positively, productively and confidently about this often taboo subject.

If you are an employee, coping with menopause, or a Manager who wants to support your female staff and create a culture of inclusivity, this podcast is for you.

I am really happy to be covering this important subject for the second time on QueenBee Talks and I’m so pleased to have another fantastic and knowledgable guest talking to me today!

Bev is a member of the British Menopause Society and has worked with other menopause organisations including Henpicked – Menopause in the Workplace.

    Nov 11 2020

Coronavirus has had a big impact on many aspects of our lives and for some of us, income and how we manage our money has been a huge issue. So today I’m talking to an expert on all things money related and we are trying to focus on the positives!

Polly Lee is a chartered accountant and runs a successful business, LeeP Accountants, here in Peterborough. She’s already been invited onto local radio quite a few times recently and I’m really glad she agreed to talk to me today. Polly is helping us understand the furlough scheme, self employed grants, mortgage and car payment holidays, interest rates and lots of other cash related stuff.

Just a little sidenote: things are changing all the time but the information Polly is sharing today is correct as of 10th November 2020.

  • 13. Baby loss - one woman's personal experience, with Shelley Cash
    Oct 21 2020

Miscarriage or stillbirth effects 1 in 4 pregnancies in the UK.

Last week was Baby Loss Awareness Week and today an amazingly brave lady is openly sharing her personal baby loss experience with me. Shelley Cash and her partner Leigh lost their baby daughter Fern after 24 weeks and 5 days of pregnancy to a rare genetic disorder called Edwards Syndrome.

There’s no right or wrong way to feel after losing a baby and stigma and silence often means families feel isolated in their grief - sharing real life experiences can help to break the silence that surrounds baby loss.

Just to warn you, there are tears in this episode and you may find some of this podcast upsetting. Shelley feels it is important to openly discuss her experience to help other parents who may be going through a similar experience.

    We discuss:

    • How Shelley didn't discover she was pregnant until 19 weeks
    • When she found out her baby had Edwards Syndrome and the tests involved
    • What is Edwards Syndrome and how common is it?
    • Why Shelley and Leigh made the heartbreaking decision to have Fern put to sleep and why Shelley waited until 24 weeks before giving birth to her
    • How after 9 hours of labour, Fern was delivered silently into this world and the precious hours they spent with their daughter
    • How it felt leaving the maternity ward without their baby girl
    • How a facebook support group, talking to other mothers who'd experienced baby loss really helped in their grief
    • The cherished memories the incredible '4Louis' charity enabled them to capture at a time they didn’t know they needed them
    • The importance of crying and allowing yourself to grieve
    • How amazing Peterborough Hospital were in arranging the funeral
    • Why they decided to channel their grief into fundraising by driving 10,000 miles across 19 countries in a 20-year-old, 998cc Nissan Micra they named Camel-Tow!

  • 12. 'Til divorce do us part' with divorce and separation coach Paula Crowhurst
    Oct 14 2020

Have you been through a traumatic divorce? Or are you currently going through one?

On this weeks podcast I’m talking to Paula Crowhurst who is a divorce and separation coach. Paula is passionately committed to helping you find ways to overcome the pain of divorce, so that you can let go of your ex and move forward with your life. Despite the trauma of a divorce, she believes that this can actually be an opportunity to redesign your life just the way you want it.

Divorce represents the death of a marriage and all the hopes and dreams that went into it. And the death of a marriage, like any death, requires a grieving process for healing.

Myself and Paula have both been through traumatic divorces ourselves and have come out the other side much happier. Today we’re discussing our own personal experiences and how we got through such a traumatic time.

Paula talks about the 5 main emotions that you will probably experience during the divorce process and offers practical advice and lots of tips on how to get through what’s undoubtably one of the worse times of your life.

    We discuss:

    • The 5 main stages of grief that you will probably experience during the divorce process.
    • Practical tips on how to cope.
    • How we felt when going through our our divorce experience.
    • Why a divorce action plan can help the healing process.
    • The importance of dealing with your feelings and why burying them can hinder your recovery.
    • Coming out the other side happier!
    • Looking back on your marriage with clarity.
