• E3: Gentle Parenting: Authoritative vs Authoritarian Parenting
    Oct 13 2022

Hello, loves and welcome back to Episode 3 of Rants & Weed. Today we dive into the beginning of one of my continual favorites: gentle parenting. I didn't discover Authoritative Parenting until I was in my early twenties. I began assessing the efficiency of my parenting and looking back on my own childhood, recalling how I felt when I was a child being parented by an adult.

Gentle parenting is the notion that our kids are people too. This parenting style also takes into account of your child's development, cognitive understanding, behavior, habits, etc. Gentle parenting focuses on the child's needs and meeting that child where they are at, not expecting more than they actually know or understand. We also promote the importance of ensuring parents needs are met as well.

In today's topic we dive deeper into Authoritarian style parenting, otherwise known as "gentle" or "democratic" parenting and why it is the best thing you can be doing for yourselves and your kids. So, grab your consumption style of choice - I've got my flower and bowl ready - and let's dive in.

  • E2: Being An Ally - Mental Health/Illness, Self-Diagnosis, Neurodiversity & Autism Acceptance
    Oct 3 2022

Good morning, my loves, and welcome back to Rants & Weed.

We're starting off this Monday, diving into the importance of mental health and what it means to be an ally to mental illness, self-diagnosis, neurodivergence & neurodiversity. We also begin the discussion of acceptance, rather than simply "awareness." (And how it is perfectly okay to have mental health labels, to seek therapy, to have accommodations, etc. You are still wonderful, magical, incredible, and capable. And I love you oh so much!)

Mental health is a major part of taking care of our physical health, yet somehow it gets stigmatized as a less-than-important factor to our overall well-being. My advocacy for mental health started in my early twenties, when I realized that all of my physical ailments and issues were due to a lifetime of mental health issues & neurodivergence that had never been noticed, accommodated for, helped, or anything. Slowly thereafter, I became an advocate for self-diagnosis, wanting to inspire people to take action for their own health. Unfortunately, doctors cannot know everything - neither can parents or teachers - so it is of the utmost importance that we know ourselves, inside and out. Only then can we combine our knowledge of ourselves with the medical knowledge of a good doctor (once you weed through the bias and medical ignorance) and WHAM BAM, we've finally got good mental health, ma'am.

So, grab your flower, your dabs, your edibles, rubs, and tinctures, and get mentally ready because we're about to dive in.

  • E1: Unlearning & Relearning - Challenging Our Conditioning
    Sep 26 2022

Good morning, beautiful people and welcome to the premiere of Rants & Weed. Today's episode sets the underlying tone of the podcast. Here, we are about growth. Introspection. Unlearning & Relearning. Challenging what we've been taught as "truth" or "fact" and asking ourselves the hard questions. "Where did I learn this? Who taught me this?" "Do I really know all there is to know about this topic? Could I still have more to learn?" "Am I listening straight from the source or am I avoiding introspection and growth out of comfortability?" It is only within challenging our conditioning and asking these hard questions (and so many more) that we begin to access, to "unlock" the best version of ourselves. And it is only within unlearning that conditioning, bias, fiction and relearning fact/truth that we can truly help ourselves, as well as others.

So, grab your meds - your flower, edibles, dabs, whatever consumption method you may choose, and let's get to introspecting. You will thank yourself afterwards.
