Good morning, my loves, and welcome back to Rants & Weed.
We're starting off this Monday, diving into the importance of mental health and what it means to be an ally to mental illness, self-diagnosis, neurodivergence & neurodiversity. We also begin the discussion of acceptance, rather than simply "awareness." (And how it is perfectly okay to have mental health labels, to seek therapy, to have accommodations, etc. You are still wonderful, magical, incredible, and capable. And I love you oh so much!)
Mental health is a major part of taking care of our physical health, yet somehow it gets stigmatized as a less-than-important factor to our overall well-being. My advocacy for mental health started in my early twenties, when I realized that all of my physical ailments and issues were due to a lifetime of mental health issues & neurodivergence that had never been noticed, accommodated for, helped, or anything. Slowly thereafter, I became an advocate for self-diagnosis, wanting to inspire people to take action for their own health. Unfortunately, doctors cannot know everything - neither can parents or teachers - so it is of the utmost importance that we know ourselves, inside and out. Only then can we combine our knowledge of ourselves with the medical knowledge of a good doctor (once you weed through the bias and medical ignorance) and WHAM BAM, we've finally got good mental health, ma'am.
So, grab your flower, your dabs, your edibles, rubs, and tinctures, and get mentally ready because we're about to dive in.
