Remember That Guy?

Written by: James Diaz and Xavier
  • Summary

  • The show where we mine our memories for nuggets of nostalgia about peripheral players past and present.

Every week, Hosts Diaz and James (along with Very Special Guest Xavier) do what sports fans love to do best: sit around and Remember Some Guys.

But just what is a Guy? To paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of [players] I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [...] But I know it when I see it".

Whether it's a perennial postseason over-performer, a hometown hero who only appears that way through rose colored glasses, or just a really great story that has to be shared - Guys of every shape, size, sport, and gender are welcome in the storied halls of our memories.

So sit back, relax, and stop worrying about playoff positioning, draft order, or the dreaded salary cap. Take some time, instead, to Remember That Guy.

    May 20 2024

Scott Norwood, Bill Buckner, Vinko Bogataj - the list of athletes for whom the enduring image is their career nadir is endless. Thankfully there will eventually be an end to this episode that starts with Host James and Diaz joined by Very Special Guest Xavier as the Guy-bunal reconvenes to discuss Guys Associated With Mistakes, Errors, Or Blunders.

James begins the proceedings with a discussion on baseball's most famous osteologist (16:08); Xavier keeps things rolling with the rise and many last minutes falls of an Olympian (37:10); and Diaz finishes it off with the sickest Guy in America (59:48). They may be known for their heartbreak, but one of them will catch a break this time when the gang decides who to induct into the Hall of Guy this week! (1:21:49)

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network

    May 13 2024

And each of those Guys are worth more than a thousand words, so get ready to listen to at least some of that gargantuan portion as Hosts James and Diaz get some help from Very Special Guest Xavier in discussing Guys Who Are The Subjects of Famous Photos.

James begins the category by getting something off of their chest (20:15); then Diaz Heats things up with a Guy who was a visual victim of a Buck-wild basketball moment (42:03): and finally Xavier eschews the prompt in favor of discussing his new favorite sports Leifer (1:10:12). The images of these Guys may hang in spaces all over the world, but by the end of this episode only one of them will be hanging on a plaque in the Hall of Guy! (1:25:13)

  • RTG? 091: Muzun-Guy
    May 6 2024

The most important meal of the day this week is the Breakfast of Guys; as Hosts James and Diaz wake up with Very Special Guest Xavier so they can enjoy a nice heaping bowl of Guys Who Have Appeared On A Wheaties Box.

Xavier helps us take off with a Guy who took the early days of aviation to new heights (23:52); James catches us up on an unlikely subordinate officer of General Mills (49:00); and Diaz brings in a kicker who he thinks should be as automatic as the Guy's leg once was (1:05:16). However, nothing is automatic when it comes to the Guy-bunal's deliberation, so we'll have to see who comes out on top and gets their face somewhere other than the cereal box: the Hall of Guy! (1:20:24)

Themes Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Animal Planet and NBC
