• The Strangers: Keddie Cabin Murders
    Oct 27 2026
The scariest horror movies are the ones that feel like they could actually happen. The 2008 film The Strangers taps into one of our most basic fears of being targeted by people we don’t know, in a place where we’re supposed to feel safe. The movie follows a couple whose night takes a terrifying turn when three masked strangers begin terrorizing them at an isolated home. The director, Bryan Bertino, was inspired to write The Strangers after hearing about a chilling unsolved case: the Keddie Cabin Murders. In April 1981, at Cabin 28 in Keddie, California, Sue Sharp, her teenage son John, and his friend Dana Wingate were murdered inside the family’s cabin. Sue’s 12-year-old daughter, Tina, disappeared that same night, and her remains were discovered years later, in 1984. Despite decades of investigation, unanswered questions, and renewed interest in the case, no one has been charged with the murders. • Off Script: Freddie Prinze
    Oct 23 2026
Freddie Prinze was a pioneering stand-up comedian and actor who achieved meteoric fame in the 1970s before his tragic death at age 22. Proudly identifying as a "Hungarican" due to his Puerto Rican and German-Hungarian heritage, he became an overnight sensation after a legendary 1973 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He solidified his status as a cultural icon by starring as Chico Rodriguez in the hit NBC sitcom Chico and the Man, popularizing the catchphrase "Looking good!". Despite his massive professional success and the birth of his son, future actor Freddie Prinze Jr., Prinze struggled privately with severe depression and substance abuse, which tragically culminated in his death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in January 1977. • The Birds
    Oct 20 2026
Today we talk about a 1963 horror movie. We dive into Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and the real-life mystery that may have inspired it. We'll also be chatting about the making of the film, fun facts, and a little bff talk ;) Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds (1963) is a classic horror thriller starring Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, and Veronica Cartwright. The film follows a California community as birds begin launching unexplained, increasingly violent attacks on people. It was inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s 1952 short story, The Birds, although Hitchcock made significant changes to the plot and setting for his film. • Off Script: Balloon Boy
    Oct 16 2026
The 2009 Balloon Boy incident became one of the most shocking media stories in American history when Richard and Mayumi Heene claimed their six-year-old son, Falcon, was trapped inside a homemade helium balloon floating across Colorado. As emergency crews and news helicopters tracked the balloon, millions of people watched in fear, believing a child’s life was in danger. When the balloon landed, Falcon was nowhere to be found, but he was later discovered hiding in the family’s attic. The incident took a disturbing turn when investigators concluded that the event had been staged for publicity, leading to criminal charges against his parents. The Netflix documentary Trainwreck: Balloon Boy revisits the bizarre hoax, exploring the family’s motives, the media frenzy, and how a supposed rescue mission became a nationwide controversy. • The Accused
    Oct 6 2026
In 1983, Cheryl Araújo became the center of a highly publicized criminal case in New Bedford, Massachusetts. What began as a night out quickly became a case that drew national attention and raised difficult questions about the justice system, the treatment of survivors, and the role of witnesses. The trial attracted intense media coverage, and the way Cheryl's story was presented and discussed publicly became an important part of the case itself. Five years later, the case inspired The Accused, a 1988 film directed by Jonathan Kaplan and starring Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis. The film is a fictionalized story, not a direct retelling of Cheryl's life. Foster plays Sarah Tobias, while McGillis portrays prosecutor Kathryn Murphy. The Accused brought many of the issues raised by the case to a much wider audience, while also becoming an award-winning film, with Foster receiving the Academy Award for Best Actress.
