Often met with unfortunate circumstances, or even mutual disinterest, old photographs often get separated from those who once knew them. These photos can travel further from their place of origin, and become altogether removed from their identities. The Chosen Families Project uses the power of genealogy to understand their origins, tell their stories, and hopefully return them to their loved ones. I want to be able to welcome them into a family they can call home once more–as part of my chosen family.I want to be able to welcome them into a family they can call home once more–as part of my chosen family. I also want to initiate conversations about genealogy, what can be changed in the traditional genealogy community, and about guests family stories, and how genealogy impacted them. • Episode 23: Interview with Meryl Frank
    Apr 3 2024

Hello everyone! I am so excited to announce that with my project The Chosen Families Project, I had the amazing opportunity to interview Meryl Frank, author of "Unearthed: A Lost Actress, a Forbidden Book, and a Search for Life in the Shadow of the Holocaust."

Meryl Frank was the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and former Mayor of Highland Park, New Jersey. We were able to have some thoughtful discussions regarding her experience writing the book, what photographs mean to one's family story, working through communal trauma of the Holocaust, and what our duty to persevering the past means.
