• 040: Elethë Monk on the audacity of relationships - familial, non-monogamous and platonic
    Mar 25 2021

    Trigger warning: Child sexual abuse

Welcome Elethë to the final episode of Season Two!! From non-monogamy, fluid sexuality, great platonic loves and familial loves it does not surprise me that Elly's audacious experiences are so deeply rooted in her relationships.

We discussed familial co-dependency and how unraveling the complexities of this relationship in particular allowed it to strengthen and is now the leading dynamic in Elly's life. I'm in actual awe of Elly's ability to set boundaries even with the people she loves the most.

We chewed the fat of her relationships with mother, lover and everyone else that comes into Elly's orbit. You can't ignore El's energy. And her pensive awareness of humanity on the micro and macro.

She's 5 years younger than me and yet has been one of the greatest teachers of my life thus far. I return the favour with life experiences but her outlook and uncompromising ethical system has inspired me for a long time.

It has been an honour to bring you this second season. I've interviewed people I admire, I aspire to emulate, I know and I love. All of the conversations have left me thinking and learning. It's been a dream to host this podcast and I thank you for each and every download and share. It means the world. More will be coming... I also have a newsletter and an upcoming YouTube. • 039: Schisandra the Drag Queen and naturopath
    Mar 19 2021

Season Two, Episode Nineteen: Schisandra @schisandra aka Zach Gallagher @prozach

I love the vibrancy of episodes with my friends. This is one of them. Zach is a beautiful, fun, raunchy and vivacious spirit. He is also a person who accidentally on purpose fell into drag. Now he hosts epic events in Sydney that celebrate the LGBTIQ community but are open to everyone. Hearing about his hilarious experiences of wig glue in his chest hair, heavy wigs and chainmail dresses but also his gentle consideration of others' experiences is incredibly poignant. An epic episode... I hope you'll enjoy. In fact I know you will.

I had a lot to say in the intro this week because it has been a really deep week in both of my homes, the UK and Australia. My thoughts are with everyone grieving because of the recent violence.

You can find Zach here: @prozach and @schisandra and his live drawing events here: https://www.facebook.com/queersydney @queer_sydney

  • 038: Huck Hastings, musician and artist on self discovery
    Mar 11 2021

    Season 2, Episode 18: Huck Hastings @huckhastings

A visionary. A beautiful artist. A sensational musician. Harry, aka Huck Hastings, is a conscientious creative who considers life and experience and perspective in all of his work. A poet and lyricist primarily, Harry launched his debut album THIS. WEEK. What an honour to hear about his journey of self discovery and what has carried him to this point on his creative journey. We discussed how being disruptive represented our disease with ourselves but the way that has levelled out through maturity and life experience. Harry also shared the many hats one wears as a creative - something I am certainly learning myself through this podcast. Overall this conversation is a thoughtful, pensive and warm interaction. Harry's album is heavenly and you're lucky listening to music isn't a one-at-a-time activity because I'd be hogging this divine record.

  • 037: Lotte Jeffs on LGBTQ parenting and being an Editor-In-Chief
    Mar 4 2021

Season Two, Episode 17: Lotte Jeffs @lottejeffs

Talking to a journalist, published author, podcaster and mother is kind of like talking to a version of myself whose dreams have all come true! Recording this episode was a real highlight as hearing the inside scoop of a career you've dreamt of is an exciting opportunity. It was made even more wonderful because Lotte is so incredibly candid and honest about the personal experience behind the cool job titles. From acting editor-in-chief of ELLE magazine to being co-host of an incredible podcast called 'Some Families' Lotte wears many hats but the most coveted is her role as mother. Sharing her experience of same-sex parenting and, indeed, the journey to becoming parents, Lotte's podcast is generous, informative and inclusive.

The conversation offers many moments of nostalgia as our paths coincidentally crossed twice at the ELLE Style Awards and even earlier at a Rihanna concert! Listen to hear about dinner with Beth Ditto, ice water plunging and how fashion can help us put our most audacious foot forward.

  • 034: Ciara Zelmerlöw (Janson) actress and mummy talks parenting and miscarriages
    Feb 11 2021

Season Two, Episode Fourteen: Ciara Zelmerlow (Janson) @ciarajzelmerlow

Ciara is the ultimate multi-hyphenate: she is an actor (famed for her role as Nicole Owen on Hollyoaks), a voiceover artist who also creates bespoke bedtime stories, an insanely talented painter, a mummy and an authentic and honest voice on social media. While I admire that she balances all of these roles it is her uniquely open and warm voice on socials that I think is the most audacious. Specifically Ciara has broached topics that are more commonly considered to be private. By sharing her experience with miscarriages Ciara has opened up a much needed conversation that has united people in their shared journeys. Dig into this beautiful episode to hear about this, her acting journey, family life, health anxiety and many other fun topics!
