• Olympian Cat Breed talks about her upcoming four-month, 900-mile "Swim California".
    Jun 23 2026

Listen in as ultra-marathon swimmer Catherine "Cat" Breed discusses her attempt to become the first person to swim the length of California. In this podcast, Breed will not only explain the reasons why she's attempting this difficult swim, but also the inherent dangers she faces, and how she hopes to avoid them.

Breed discusses with host Bonta Hill the training that's gone into this swim, her support staff, how she'll keep track of where she is, how many miles she'll attempt to swim each day, and how she'll attempt not to get sunburned for being in the water that long.

Breed has already successfully completed swims from the Farralon Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge, and from the Golden Gate to Half Moon Bay, so the odds are pretty good that she'll be able to conquer this epic attempt.
