  • Akindele: Opening Doors For The Next Generation
    Mar 28 2024

The reason I wrote Uncommon Sense was to impact youth and I could not have found a better cohort. As an Academic Advisor, Akindele encourages African American students to see themselves in a different light as far as their education, access to capital, and understand financial literacy from a US perspective. In his former career he was a teacher and administrator for many years, and is now a Student Career Coach, a Business Developer, and co-manages an Association. His impact to these students is priceless. Akindele wants to empower his students to graduate, have career goals, international goals, and to impact their community with these values. His vision is to link business, government and technology resources between Africa and the US. He wants to position a city, county, and community to understand why they should make a foreign directed investment in African based businesses.

  • Deondra: Figuring It Out On Your Own
    Mar 21 2024

Deondra did not start off in life with any advantages. Like many of us, her parents did not have the skills to pass on, so Deondra had to figure it out herself. She entered an abusive relationship, had 3 children, and was homeless more than once. With nobody to fall back on she had to drag herself out of a dark place and find some stability. It has been a long journey, but she has made it through and is still working to improve. The great news is that her children will break this cycle of “just getting by”. They have been taught more advanced skills, are being educated and trained to further their careers, and they will have a better relationship with money.

  • Natalie: Hard Work Leads To Opportunities
    Mar 14 2024

After her parents’ divorce when Natalie was 5 years old, she saw the family finances change drastically. Her family relocated from a big home to a trailer, sometimes without heat, electricity, or enough food. Natalie and her siblings worked many jobs to help her mom pay the bills. Having school mates that were much more affluent taught Natalie that there was so much more to life than cleaning offices. Her mom did not encourage college because she simply did not know better. Natalie knew that an education would break this struggle for money, but she didn’t know exactly how to get there. While working at several jobs to pay for school, she came upon a bank position that would help her with tuition. Her career progressed over the years and she is now a successful real estate broker.
