    Mark put the cleansing of the temple between the accounts of the fruitless fig tree to connect the disciples with Jeremiah 7 and 8. It went along with Jesus prediction of the destruction of Jerusalem and the horror that would come to pass. That is why He wept. He looks for fruit in our lives too. The passage concludes with Jesus' promise of how we can deal with the things that keep us from being fruitful.

    The day Jesus entered Jerusalem people were choosing their lamb for sacrifice. Jesus was presenting Himself as the Lamb of God, humble and riding on an unbroken colt of a donkey. On the other side of town they were welcoming Pilate and his legion of soldiers. People were choosing between eternal peace in Christ at His invitation or the temporal peace of Rome that came by force of the sword. We choose every day between the world and our Maker.
