• 145. Are Scars Dangerous?
    Jan 22 2026
I love the Indiana Jones movies. One of my favorite scenes is from the first film, where he shows Marian all his scars and tells her where they hurt so she can kiss them. Scars are no big deal, right? I certainly have my fair share of them after six breast cancer surgeries. What if scars were preventing your body from truly healing? Scars, the Nervous System & Neural Therapy Most of us think of scars as no big deal, just something left behind after surgery, an injury, or acne. However, research shows that around 10% of individuals with scars experience neuropathic pain, indicating that scars can have a deeper impact beyond the surface of the skin. In some cases, they can interfere with how your nervous system communicates with the rest of your body. Your skin is packed with nerves that constantly send signals to your brain. When the skin is injured, those signals can get disrupted. Even years later, a scar can continue to create tension, pain, or symptoms in areas that seem totally unrelated. What Is Neural Therapy? And Why Did I Try It? Neural therapy is a gentle treatment that helps reset irritated or misfiring nerves using tiny injections of local anesthetic, often into scars. After my last surgery caused excessive scar tissue and failed healing, another surgery was suggested. A podcast guest mentioned neural therapy, I tried it. Why Treat Scars? Some scars can disrupt the nervous system, contributing to pain, inflammation, or limited movement sometimes far from the scar itself. In today’s podcast, Dr. Alison Egan shares how Neural Therapy transformed my surgical scars. I wish I’d known this sooner my results truly surprised even my oncologist. ______ Body Deli My all-time fav for non-toxic skincare. Their Phoenix Lift oil is always on my face! I am honored when a person chooses me to help investigate their health and guide them down the path of wellness. I’ve spent a lifetime using and abusing my body through collegiate rowing, professional wilderness guiding, ski instructing, river rafting and sailing because of this I know a thing or two about injuries first hand! I know how frustrating injuries can be and what the long recovery journey entails. I was drawn to Naturopathic medicine through my own search to optimize health, prevent injury and recover outside of the conventional medical model. I’ve believed in the body’s ability to heal long before I attended naturopathic medical school, and found my own path to physical recovery through natural therapies, hands on treatments (like injection therapies) and gentle movement. • 144. My Top Tips from 2025!
    Jan 8 2026
🌙 Sleep Better, Live Better: Your Guide to Restful Nights and Peaceful Days 🌱 We all know sleep is important, but getting a good night's rest can sometimes feel impossible. Here are simple tips to help you sleep better, get your body clock back on track, and feel better overall. 🌞 1. Reset Your Circadian Rhythm with Light Your body does best with a regular routine, and your body clock runs more smoothly when you stick to a schedule. Wake up at the same time each day and get some natural light right away. Just 10-15 minutes outside or by a window helps your body know when to be awake and when to sleep. As evening comes, spend less time looking at bright screens (yes, your phone too) and use softer, dimmer lights. This tells your body it is time to relax and get ready for sleep. 🌙 2. Ground Yourself Before Bed "Grounding" means connecting with the earth to feel more balanced. Walking barefoot on grass or sitting on the ground for a few minutes can help you feel calmer, relax, and sleep better. 💔 3. Say Goodbye to Toxic People We all meet people who make us feel tired, and they can affect our sleep too. If you are around people who bring you down, it is harder to relax. Take time to protect your peace. Set limits with people who drain you and spend more time with those who make you feel good. 🌱 4. Relax and Wind Down Sometimes your body needs help winding down. Create a calming bedtime ritual, like reading, journaling, or soothing music. A warm bath or light stretching can also prepare you for sleep. Try to avoid anything too stimulating right before bed no stressful conversations! Better sleep is within your reach. Reset your rhythm, ground yourself, and avoid toxins for restful nights. Sweet dreams and take care of yourself! 🌙💖 ______ My newsletter https://whydidigetcancerbydeborahenos.myflodesk.com/newslettersignup ______ Connect with Deborah Deborah on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whydidigetcancer/ Deborah on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DebsHealthCoachKitchen Deborah on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ydidigetcancer Deborah on Pinterest: https://in.pinterest.com/whydidigetcancer/ Join Deb's weekly newsletter: https://whydidigetcancerbydeborahenos.myflodesk.com/newslettersignup Learn more about your ad choices. • 143. What Happens In Vagus (Nerve)...
    Dec 18 2025
In 2019, my voice was so hoarse that people could hardly hear what I was saying. Along with my hoarse voice, I struggled to swallow food, felt a burning sensation in my chest and on several nights woke up gasping for air I was terrified! After consulting with two different doctors, I finally received a diagnosis: GERD, or gastrointestinal reflux disease. When I heard this, my first thought was, hold on, I am not a middle-aged man! I thought GERD was something that happened after years of smoking and drinking too much beer. My physician prescribed drugs (what a surprise), but not much else was suggested. So, you know me, I decided to take a deeper dive into the root cause of this disorder. Guess what? I learned that the Vagus Nerve (the longest cranial nerve in the body) was probably the key player in fixing my symptoms. I started to “work on” healing my Vagus Nerve. This included gargling and humming! Today’s podcast guest, Dr. Navaz Habib, aka The Vagus Nerve Doc, confirmed that gargling and humming are two ways to support this nerve. He had three additional suggestions that have been so easy to implement. Seriously, I can support my Vagus Nerve in just a few minutes per day, usually while I am doing other simple tasks or running errands. ______ My Newsletter https://whydidigetcancerbydeborahenos.myflodesk.com/newslettersignup ______ Connect with Dr. Navaz Habib Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drnavazhabib/ FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/DrNavazHabib ______ Connect with Deborah Deborah on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whydidigetcancer/ Deborah on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DebsHealthCoachKitchen Deborah on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ydidigetcancer Deborah on Pinterest: https://in.pinterest.com/whydidigetcancer/ Join Deb's weekly newsletter: https://whydidigetcancerbydeborahenos.myflodesk.com/newslettersignup Learn more about your ad choices. Dec 4 2025
Sleep makes everything in life easier. Years ago, a doctor told me, "If you're not sleeping well, you can't be well." That's quite a bit of pressure! The last thing I want to think about when I'm in bed is feeling stressed about falling asleep. But guess what? Today's podcast guest, Holistic Sleep Coach Morgan Adams, shared a tip that has helped me fall asleep faster. She explained the research behind creating a list of "concerns and actions" and writing it down about 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. Studies show that this simple act of putting your stress on paper helps lower stress hormones, allowing your body to sleep more soundly. I also appreciate the part of this exercise where I outline my action plan for addressing my stressors. I've listened to this episode three times, and each time I learn something new. • 141. Artificial Turf: Is It Toxic?
    Nov 22 2025
I've never given much thought to artificial turf. That is, until I read a recent article published by today's podcast guest, Abbie. Artificial turf, created initially by Monsanto and called ChemGrass (by this point, you probably have guessed how I feel about this topic), was perhaps made with good intentions. Kids can play sports throughout the winter. It seems to be good for the environment and doesn't need watering or chemical spraying. In today's episode, our guest explained that the artificial turf is made from old car tires, forever chemicals, and plastic. If your kids play soccer on turf, you’ve likely noticed how hot it can be on the field. In fact, turf can be thirty degrees hotter than natural grass. Studies have shown that plastic and chemical vapors are released even more in extreme weather conditions, and these chemicals can come into contact with our kids' skin. This episode is essential for any parent whose child plays on turf. Abbie shares her top four tips for protecting your kids from these harmful chemicals. Please share this episode with all the parents and grandparents in your life. Why am I so excited to make gift guides each year? • 140. Why I Think Breast Cancer Month is a SCAM.
    Nov 6 2025
Have you heard of Pinkwashing? This is what happens when companies promote breast cancer awareness to boost sales while using harmful chemicals in their products. Pinkwashing can also cause what I call the "health halo." You see the pink ribbon, so you think the product is safe. It's like going into Whole Foods and assuming that everything sold there is good for you. Sorry if I just blew your mind. Here's why I think Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a Scam: Products promoting breast cancer awareness often contain harmful chemicals like parabens, phthalates, and BPA, which can disrupt hormones and increase breast cancer risk. Despite this, they are still marketed during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some alcohol companies display the pink ribbon on their products, despite research showing that alcohol consumption is a known risk factor for breast cancer. Studies indicate that women who drink regularly have a higher risk of developing the disease, with those consuming one drink a day facing a 7-10% increased risk. Here are my action steps: Choose a starting point and take action. Following my breast cancer diagnosis, I evaluated the products I used on my skin and face. The average American woman uses about 20 products daily, totaling around 168 different chemicals, including makeup, toothpaste, and shampoo. Studies show that when a woman reduces her toxin load for just 28 days, she can reduce her risk of breast cancer. • 139. Pay Attention to the Signs! It Could Save Your Life.
    Oct 30 2025
Have you ever met someone and the hairs on the back of your neck stood up? Have you ever "felt" like something would happen, and then it did? I was on a business trip a few years ago, and as I got into my rental car at night in a big city, I felt a voice say, "Lock the door now!" For a split second, I tried to "reason" with the voice so I could put my handbag down and put on my seatbelt. Well, I quickly locked the door at about the same time some very scary-looking guy was trying to get into my car! My big takeaway- listen to that still, small voice inside; it will never steer you wrong. In today's episode with Dr. Sarah Trask, we explore the still-small voice that often accompanies our health decisions. Is there a reason people get sick that has almost NOTHING to do with how they eat and how much they exercise? You will be surprised by some of her answers and the simple tips to lower your risk of getting any illness. I learned a lot from Sarah today, and our conversation moved me to tears several times. I put Dr. Trask into the category of "I Wish I Had Known You and Your Information Years Ago," but now that I do, it is changing my health for the better. • 138. Do We Need Doctors? Can the Body Heal Itself?
    Oct 23 2025
One thing I never considered during my experience with cancer was the body's ability to heal itself. Although I was a holistic nutritionist, my focus was primarily on food. When it came to healing, it was best left to medical professionals. After all, how could the body heal without drugs or medical intervention? Honestly, if someone had told me to focus on healing my body by getting more sleep, eating organic foods, spending time in nature, managing my stress, and maintaining a spiritual practice, I would have thought, "Sure, that might help me feel better," but would it actually contribute to my healing? Today's guest, Dr. Sarah Trask, taught me about homeopathy. She shared with me that when she was in homeopathy school, she contracted food poisoning during class; she was nauseous and was about to leave the class. The teacher used her own experience with food poisoning as a "teachable moment" for the students. Her teacher gave her a homeopathic treatment, and within minutes, she was better. She was sold on the power of homeopathy. I've now been using homeopathic remedies for almost eight months. I'm in awe of the power these tiny pellets have on my body. Just last week, during a retreat in Montana, I ate something that didn't agree with me. I took a couple of pellets under my tongue, and within a minute, I'd forgotten all about it! Sarah has some astounding stories of healing in today's podcast. I had so many takeaways, and I hope you do too! ______ Parafy worm kit You're not alone if you've ever wondered what’s lurking in your body!
