You worked hard to build a successful business, make great money and create more freedom in your life. At some point, that success should start giving something back to you.
But that doesn’t always happen automatically.
As your business grows, it’s easy to keep operating according to decisions you made years ago. You stay available because you’ve always been available. You keep responsibilities that made sense when you had fewer resources. You find a more efficient way to do something, create a little extra capacity and immediately fill the space with more work.
Before long, you can have more success, more experience and more choices than you’ve ever had while still giving your business just as much of yourself.
In this episode of Redefining Success®, I’m asking you to look at the return you’re getting on everything you’ve built.
Money is absolutely part of that return. I love making money because of the choices it creates. But if your business has become more successful, shouldn’t some of those choices start showing up in the way you actually live and work?
That could mean having more control over your calendar, paying for support that makes your life easier, spending more of your working hours doing what you’re exceptional at or being able to step away without your business constantly pulling your attention back.
It also means recognizing when you’re still trying to earn something you’ve already earned.
Your business may be in a completely different place than it was five years ago, but your habits haven’t necessarily caught up. You can have plenty of evidence that you know how to create results and still feel like every open afternoon should be used to get ahead.
That’s one of the biggest conversations we’re having in this episode.
You may already have more freedom than you’re using.
I’ll walk you through my Success Return Audit, which will help you look at three questions:
What has my success given me access to that I’m not fully using?
What is my success costing me that it no longer needs to cost?
What do I want my success to give back to me over the next 90 days?
Then we take it one step further:
What would have to change for your business to need 20% less of you without reducing your results?
If you currently work 40 hours a week, that’s eight hours.
Where could those hours come from?
This isn’t about disappearing from your business, working as little as possible or becoming less ambitious. I love my businesses, I love working, and I have plenty more I want to create.
I also don’t believe every next level of success should automatically cost more of your time.
There may be work you’re still doing that no longer needs your level of experience. Someone else may be ready to take ownership of something you’ve continued carrying, or your availability may be teaching people to bring things to you that could easily be handled another way.
Sometimes you don’t need fifty changes. A few smart changes in the way you operate can give you back hours every week without reducing your results.
And then you get to decide what you want to do with that capacity.
You can use it to grow your business and make more money. You can use it to finish earlier on a Friday, take a trip without bringing your laptop or finally have room for an idea you haven’t had time to pursue.
That’s the point.
You decide where the return goes.
If your business is successful but still depends too heavily on you, and you’re ready to change that without sacrificing your ambition or the results you’ve worked so hard to create, the Redefining Success® Challenge starts soon.
Over 21 days, I’ll help you look at where your business is taking more of your time, attention and capacity than it needs to and start making practical changes in the way you operate.
