Le "Lettere dal carcere" di Antonio Gramsci vennero pubblicate, su decisione di Togliatti, per la prima volta da Einaudi nel 1947 in una edizione costituita da 218 testi. Si trattava di una raccolta incompleta, che però per prima portava a conoscenza del grande pubblico l'opera di Gramsci. Il libro vinse il premio Viareggio di quell'anno.
