Jared Cartwright grew up in a loving, caring community, completely isolated from the horrors of the outside world. The end of man was not signaled by marauding gangs or explosions but with silence. People simply grew older knowing a younger generation would not be there to replace them. The final two residents in the neighborhood of Camelot, an old man and his invalid brother, are trapped in their house by forests full of cats and dogs battling with the bears and wolves to eat anything they can find. As the man struggles to survive, he recounts all the ways society changed as the human population continued to shrink.

As the human population continues to decline, most people travel south to maintain a semblance of the life they know. Entire cities are abandoned. But following a senseless act of violence, one man travels north, toward forgotten lands. Is it possible for a loving husband and father, surrounded by reminders of mankind's impending extinction, to reclaim what he lost?

The plague spared few who came in contact with it. When it was finally time to plant the spring crops, the farmers were only allowed through the gate under heavy guard. It was the same when the cowboys went out to bring in the cattle. Hunting parties, scavenging parties, they were all heavily guarded. To have the blood of an immune meant you had a target on your back. There were groups of survivors who held the belief that our blood could bring them immunity. However false their beliefs, it was the last shred of hope they had, and they clung to it ferociously, even violently.

As parts of everyday life begin to fade away, one teacher struggles to keep a semblance of normality for the teenagers in her classroom. But what can she teach to students who know they will one day be the final remnants of mankind?
