When a pair of unruly fictional pirates escape out of their book into Victorian London, 11-year-old Odelia Hardluck-Smythe's lonely life is turned upside down. Captain Blunderfuss and Cook are rude, dangerous and obsessed with marzipan fruits, but they could be the answer to all her prayers. Pirates mean treasure, and poor fatherless Odelia could really do with some of that. The Great Galloon is an enormous airship, built by Captain Meredith Anstruther and manned by his crew, who are able to fight off invading marauders whilst drinking tea and sweeping floors! Captain Anstruther is preparing to marry the beautiful Lady Isabella, but disaster strikes when his evil brother comes aboard for the wedding and steals Isabella away. Auf dem Planeten Pollux 4, 40 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt, hat Zordak, der Weltraumpirat, seinen Stützpunkt. Von hier aus kontrolliert er mit seinem Schlachtschiff "Black Dragon" eine Reihe von Welten, die er zum Teil unterworfen hat, zum Teil immer wieder ausplündert. Die beiden auf der Erde schon für tot erklärten Raumfahrer Perry Cooper und Tom Morton verweilen zurzeit auf der Juwelenwelt Zetari und sind im Dienste der Prinzessin Byra tätig. Diese rechnet damit, dass Zordak alles versuchen wird Terra und Zetari zu vernichten.
