Martin Luther's Bondage of the Will (1525) is a response to Desiderius Erasmus's "Diatribe on Free Will.’ The work is considered as one of the great masterpieces of the Reformation. Luther writes powerfully about man's depravity and God's sovereignty in his direct style, which combines spirituality and humor. For Luther, the crucial issue was the ability of free will, and the extent to which it is subject to God's sovereignty.

"This magnificent work will be found to embrace not only all the essential doctrines of the Gospel of Christ, but also the whole "path of the just" (Prov. 4:18), in every station and relationship of life." (from the translator's preface) - Summary by Henry Cole

These my homilies concerning the prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ, which St. John has delivered down to us in his seventeenth chapter, I not only saw with pleasure printed and brought forth into public, but myself requested my particular friend, M. Caspar Cruciger, to undertake the labour of collecting them and reducing them into a regular form, (for I had not time and leisure to do it myself) that he might put them into the hands of others. For I was fully persuaded, that this crumb and this cup. of cold water would be useful and acceptable unto godly Christians who hunger and thirst after ...

LUTHER ON THE CREATION: A CRITICAL AND DEVOTIONAL COMMENTARY ON GENESIS by Martin Luther, hero of the Reformation, the greatest of the Teuton Church fathers, and the father of protestant Church literature. - Summary from the title page

In his "Dear Genesis" Luther proved that the free Evangelical religion he taught was not new, but as old as the first book of the Bible, and that it does not consist in outward forms, organizations and pomp, but in true faith in Christ in our hearts and lives. Genesis contains the only historic records accessible of the first 2364 years of the 4004 years before Christ. It is worthy of study in our day as it was in the days of the Reformation. This, the second volume of Luther's great commentary on Genesis, ... covers chapters four to nine inclusive of Genesis. - Summary by J. N. Lenker

Being a writer, says James Baldwin in this searing collection of essays, requires 'every ounce of stamina he can summon to attempt to look on himself and the world as they are'. His seminal 1961 follow-up to Notes on a Native Son shows him responding to his times and exploring his role as an...

Martin Luther King Jr. may be America's most revered political figure, commemorated in statues, celebrations, and street names around the world. But despite his stature, the significance of King's writings and political thought remains underappreciated. In To Shape a New World, Tommie Shelby and Brandon Terry state that the marginalization of King's ideas reflects a romantic consensus history that renders the civil rights movement inherently conservative - an effort not at radical reform but at "living up to" enduring ideals laid down by the nation's founders.

Robert Francis Kennedy (November 20, 1925 - June 6, 1968), also known by his initials RFK and by the nickname Bobby, was an American politician and lawyer. He served as the 64th United States Attorney General from January 1961 to September 1964, and as a U.S. Senator from New York from January 1965 until his assassination in June 1968, when he was running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

This is a fictionalized biography of the wife of the reformer Dr. Martin Luther. In the author's words, he hopes that "people may learn to know the wife of its greatest man,—not by name only, but as her husband's 'helpmeet,' in the truest sense of the word, as a pattern of domestic virtue, and as a pearl among women." - Summary by Dory Smith
