He lures Tarzan's son Jack away from London and captures him, only to have Jack escape into the jungle that Tarzan once called home.

The Warlord of Mars is a science fantasy novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the third of his Barsoom series. Burroughs began writing it in June, 1913, going through five working titles; Yellow Men of Barsoom, The Fighting Prince of Mars, Across Savage Mars, The Prince of Helium, and The War Lord of Mars.

This book was an instant best-seller and became (and remains to this day) an international sensation, much like Harry Potter today. The story of the infant son of an English Lord and Lady marooned on the coast of Africa made its author famous and wealthy. Adopted by the she-ape, Kala, Tarzan becomes a "mighty hunter, mighty fighter" - the first superhero in American literature.

A spy, Albert Werper, has been sent by Tarzan's long time foe, Achmet Zek, to abduct Jane. His plan changes when he discovers that Tarzan is bankrupt and must return to the lost city of Opar to bring back more gold. While Tarzan and the spy are in the treasure tomb, an earthquake strikes Tarzan down and blocks the exit. The only way out leads Werper to the sacrificial chamber of the Flaming God, where he soon finds himself the next victim. Tarzan is quick to recover his strength, but not his memory!

"Tarzan of the Apes" is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first in a series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in the pulp magazine All Story Magazine in October, 1912; the first book edition was published in 1914. The character was so popular that Burroughs continued the series into the 1940s with two dozen sequels. The novel tells the story of John Clayton, born in the Western coastal jungles of equatorial Africa to a marooned couple from England.
