Earth in 2064 is politically corrupt and in economic decline. The Long Depression has dragged on for 56 years, and the Bureau of Sustainable Research is hard at work making sure no new technologies disrupt the planned economy. Ten years ago, a band of malcontents, dreamers, and libertarian radicals bolted privately developed antigravity drives onto rusty seagoing cargo ships, loaded them to the gills with 20th-century tunnel-boring machines and earthmoving equipment, and set sail—for the moon.

The first US/UN invasion of the renegade lunar colony of Aristillus has failed—but the powers-that-be in Washington and elsewhere can't give up. Their political careers—and an escape from the economic decline of Earth under a command-and-control economy—depend on conquering the lunar expats. A second—and final—invasion is planned. To make matters worse, a militant cyborg is undermining his authority, a giant spider is terrifying the passengers, and a sentient plant keeps stealing all the beer.

Reasonspace is in shambles after the disappearance of all magical creatures. Without faster-than-light travel, supply and communication routes have dried up, leaving humankind stranded and starving. Cowboy Jim and his complement of Reason soldiers search for the relocated Bala using the only surviving FTL drive. On their new utopian planet, the Bala are on the brink of civil war between those who want peace under old-fashioned unicorn rule and those who seek revenge on their human oppressors. Only Captain Jenny and her brain parasite can stop the Reason plan to enslave the Bala again.

Thirteen months into his seven-day cruise, all Captain Leo MacGavin wants for his birthday is to finally go home. When his crew gives him a fully functional starship transporter, his wish comes true...sort of. As soon as the WTF Americano Grande returns to its home galaxy, things start to go awry. Leo’s relationship status becomes “more than complicated” as he’s torn between his holographic sweetheart, the woman she was based on, and an old crush who sashays back into his life.
