Tragedy had reduced James to a nobody. Washed up and homeless in NYC, he thought his life was over. Dungeons suddnly popped up across the planet, summoning invaders and monsters from alternate realities. Ancient gods slumbering beneath the Earth were woken. And all humans were empowered with Levels and Classes gained by, among other things, killing monsters and other humans.

James and his team are now Earth's last line of defense amidst the chaos of New York City. But with each Nemesis wave they defeat and each power James unveils, a grim truth unfolds: they're being manipulated. The enemy not only predicts their actions, it feeds on them. Their struggle may be nothing more than a sinister game or a prelude to annihilation. To stand a chance, they must rewrite the rules. In the dwindling light of hope, James embraces his role as a leader. Tough decisions, impossible sacrifices, and the weight of the world on his shoulders—he'll face it all.

Even with his immense new power, James comes to realize that he is still playing into the hands of the System. If they are to free Earth and redeem the billions of dead, James and his crew will have to do more than journey into the pits of hell or slaughter countless armies of demons—they'll have to find the god-like forces orchestrating the apocalypse, break every rule, and utterly defeat them.

Now short of a house, Basil and his pets are leaving the countryside for the wider world. Their goal? To show the factions vying for control over post-apocalypse Europe that nothing can beat a dragon-riding tamer and his monster menagerie. However, Basil's crusade soon encounters new challenges.

When Commander William Jern and his wife, Gayle, are given an opportunity to move into one of the spacious colonial homes on the Village Green, they jump at the chance. Only the Jerns' new dream home quickly becomes an icy nightmare, as death stalks them relentlessly. It comes unheralded out of the night, and like all of us, they are woefully unprepared. Regardless of his state of readiness, William Jern must face terrors beyond imagination in order to save his daughter.
